It cannot be. They will figure it's wrong within 30 seconds of using it.
it looks like at first they were using thermal as a separate optic from the mepro but, with experience they figured out its better to mount the thermal in the front and use both optics. I am just speculating.

This thermal in back maybe because said soldiers in photo wanted to use ir laser pointers and would use thermal by flip out magnifer mount to observe and scan and engage through mepro mor pro
Or maybe he just wanted to use mepro mor and thermal seprately by cliping thermal side out
Maybe its just theory but it seems to be most possible logic
