Iran having nuclear weapons is not in India's interest, but Iran is key to India's access to Central Asia, the INSTC corridor, supplies to Afghanistan, and—if sanctions are lifted in the future (which seems impossible in the current scenario)—energy supplies as well as some key minerals. Remember, India’s ONGC helped Iran in the Farzad-B gas field, and we imported Iranian oil even during the Obama-era sanctions. An economy like India’s needs such partners if we are to grow without suffering blackouts imposed by the West.
Any regime change in Iran would be very difficult for India—especially if the new regime becomes a puppet of the USA. Trade with Iran is beneficial for both countries, and India could easily maintain a trade surplus. Iran needs Indian goods in many sectors, and the relationship is mutually advantageous.
