Hmm, airforce can be expected, army showing interest is surprising.
If army did decided to procure lighter vl srsam with a small 15kg warhead, we can safely assume it's pinpoint accuracy and hit probability are excellent even against small anti suface/ anti ship missiles.
Best in its class.
Making an institution like army change its mind, especially indian army demands some serious performance.
Army did initially went for heavier qr-sam with twice the warhead size, when vl-srsam was in development.

I have heard that Rolls Royce offer re technology sharing is more favorable. That's why I was saying go for both, it will be an insurance policy and create pressure on both Safran and RR. Also there will be 2 parallel and competing GTRE programs as well.

Edit: Between RR and Safran, RR has a huge lead in development of variable cycle engine technology. Tapping into their design ecosystem and metallurgy might come in handy with AMCA mk2 and later 6G.

I would say, take advantage of russian economy, offer 2-3 billion for al51, get its material tech and design the new engine and core. Material research time saved or else just do iterative upgrades of the al51 material so that when amca engine comes, it would be a bar above al51.

But for once we need gtre to collab and learn and absorb the timely r&d and tech for engine development. Even if we need to spend 10 billion with safran/rr, we should. This would be a milestone. Pls decide karo jaldi se drdo babooze

Benefit of RR is they are everywhere, they have fighter jet engines, they have commercial/transport plane engines, they have marine gas turbines.

So they could be useful that way.

But ofc the Bri'ish too will not allow this ToT thingy a la carte, we may have to buy eurofighter.

Yahi to problem Hai, agar ye chindi gov. Money spent karna chahati to Abhi kaveri tejas pe Hota, aur koi foreign collaboration ki zarrurat na hoti amca ke engine ke liye.

Abhi Sarkar 4.5 billion dollars invest karne ke liye raaji hai agar kisi ek agency se foreign collaboration ho gayi to.
Isse jyada paiso ki umeed mat karo

datran needs to be tested in phoren, we dont even have ice engine test facility. the lack of test facility is a clear sabotage from MoD babus and drdo babus so that they have to go to phoren regularly for tests and they get their cut.

This would work

RR -> transport/commercial jet engine + marine gas turbine
Safran -> fighter jet engine derived from m88 core, Kaveri upgraded basically.

Both parties are scamming us with promises of ToT and IPR but we must steal whatever tech is there and scam them back.

All sides involved seem to be playing games. GoI / MoD by withholding sanction for the Kaveri derivative project & test facilities since forever, only willing to do so if a foreign OEM collaborates in a JV for the BA ( Hon) in Eng Literature babooos have lost faith in the DRDO GTRE duo , who incidentally have agreed to go along with the GoI so that the much needed funds & test facilities become available such that work on the KED doesn't cease & if the JV falls short of the goals set or doesn't deliver at all for some reason, GTRE's renewed work on the KED bears fruit in a decade which is just about the time required to realise the 120 KN TF as confirmed by S.Jha & Sriram Thyagarajan in one of the episodes of IAH , IAF for showing no interest whatsoever in the progress of the Kaveri or KED but ever ready to go to the press to complain about HAL unlike the IN & their commitment to indigenous programs & RR & SAFRAN for their bait & switch tactics.

This program should require Govt support and attention on the level of the nuclear weapons program but alas everyone busy in thier own 🤡ery while the Leadership kangz about strategic autonomy and multi polar world
