1 thing common in all these building collapses are that they are all illegal, usually located in slums/colonies. Hang the local MLA for permitting this. You can't hide a large construction for this long. As usual the municipality claimed that the building was illegal after it collapsed. Gujarat also seem to have a lot more building fire/collapse mishaps than rest of country. Local BJP there needs a big kick up their butts

The final death toll will end up around 300-500. The entire village/area was buried by the mud and it took place at 2am. Kerala govt also delayed rescue efforts and calling in the army/NDRF. There is very little hope of rescue for those buried alive. This seems similar to the landslide that took place in Ethiopia just last week, which killed around 500, or the Gansu mudslide a decade back which killed close to 2000 people. The only difference is most houses in Kerala are single story and not apartments.

Kerala has an even bigger disaster looming. Disgusting tamil nadu government is refusing to allow this dam to be rebuilt. It is over 100+ years old and will collapse in the event of a 100 year rainfall event, which is looking increasingly common due to climate change.
