Though the U.S. publicly supported a ceasefire, there were private motives to see the war continue in order to weaken Russia. Tensions culminated during Diwali, when pro-Khalistani extremists, allegedly supported by Trudeau’s Liberal Party, instigated a brawl at a Hindu temple in Toronto, sparking international condemnation and temporarily silencing Trudeau.

Ultimately, many of these issues trace back to the U.S.’s handling of the Ukraine conflict and its diplomatic consequences. Indian communities in the U.S. and Canada are hopeful that the war will come to an end sooner rather than later, and I believe Trump could bring a quick resolution.

Trump’s approach to limiting Chinese imports could also bring significant benefits to India. As America looks to diversify its sources for consumer goods and supply chain products, India stands out as a key alternative. If Trump imposes tariffs on Chinese imports early in his administration, these benefits could start accruing to India almost immediately.

Additionally, India is seeking a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, a move the Biden administration has been lukewarm about. India hopes that Trump might offer stronger support for this initiative.
