Let’s hope the Kaveri or some another engine is ready within next 10 years. Trump is a businessman who cares only about American interests. If US military-industrial complex sees the Tejas MK2 as a threat to F-16, they may stop supplying engines to India.

Kaveri's gonna take 7-10 years to get complete. Picking another engine rn isn't possible. Sadly enough we're stuck with Americans.

I don't see Kaveri being ready until all Mk1A's ordered have been built. Apart from the PSU-style culture and administration slowing things down, unrealistically low funding is likely to slow development down further.

M-88 produces about 75kN IIRC, whereas a much more powerful engine is required to get close to F414 thrust . Would take time and a lot of money.

EJ-200 produces 90kN. Perhaps EJ-200 is a better idea - a small decrease in thrust would match F404-IN20 output while a relatively small increase would match F414 output. IIRC when EJ-200 was selected for Eurofighter, the brief required an engine where the thrust could be augmented (a) by 20% (b) by 30%. That would bring thrust up to (a) 108kN, (b) 117kN.

One base engine could span Tejas Mk1/Mk1A, Tejas Mk2, AMCA Mk1 and AMCA Mk 2.

Dev cost: presumably derating the 90kN version to would not be expensive while augmenting thrust by 20% or 30% (with some of the design work already done) would be much, much cheaper and much, much faster than starting a new engine from scratch.

While not ideal, it may cover all the bases, so to speak. Most importantly, GOI may actually be prepared to finance the project. And Eurojet may be prepared to part with a lot of IP - at least for the detuned version.

The F414 is the most advanced jet engine in the world to ever enter production. Letting a third world country buy an aircraft with this engine is a big threat.

The F414 has the highest pressure ratio of any afterburning turbofan in the world. It has a thrust to weight ratio higher than the engines in the F-22 and F-35. This extreme performance is still achieved despite the engine being derated well below its maximum performance. This derating gives the F414 a massive 6,000 hours between overhauls. This is longer than any other afterburning turbofan in the world. The EJ200 in the Eurofighter and F119 in the F-22 are 2,000 hours between overhauls. All of the Russian fighter engines have a time between overhauls of less than 500 hours.

Sounds like a devastating engine. While India may be allowed to use it, would the US block its supply to many potential Tejas Mk2 customers? That would favour a backup engine being acquired in case of supply problems with F414.

The actual RCS number matters. If LCA is suppose 1 sqm, then MWF would be 0.25 sqm.
Our DoD has already claimed pocket & maintenance friendly RAS & NiRaLa, Adrishya RAM. With geometric treatment & our newly developed RAS, RAM & further R&D improvements, it can become affordable AMWF in our Socialist mixed economy compared to Capitalist free market economy, at par with AMCA & F-35, eliminating possibility of future imports of Su-75, F-35, etc.
That would be reducing RCS by not just 1/4th but 1/1000th which was done 30 years back in 1990s by USA.

The Much bigger challenge is developing RAM that lasts longer, not as fragile to high speed, not easily degradable.
The ram of f22 30 years ago sucks at these things compared to modern ram coating like on f35.
Our ram is more similar to( don't know if its as good as f35 ram) is f35 one than f22

And pretty sure rcs of mk2 being 1/4 means our modern ram played a majority role( along with smoother surface and less exposed seams) because mk2 does not stealthy geometric shape, it's shape is still simular of mk1 but frontal median spherical rcs is 1/4 of mk1.
