ADA Tejas Mark-II/Medium Weight Fighter

good if untrue;
better if true

in both case there shall be some urgency to finish those jets
in <true> case, let's just fuck it and go with RD-33MK or whatever is available from Ruskals in that series, get that KH-2001/KH-2002 airframe that was already certified for RD-33 and put it on Tejas and be done with that 🤷‍♂️

"something's better than nothing" and we don't have much time to waste

Any official confirmation or just rumours ?
Rumours as of now, more like inside info(its always half baked though)

Its about GE F414... the 99 F404 for tejas has been already signed back in 2021 and we are just awaiting delivery which will definitely happen however late. RD33 is very underepowered for LCA mk2... Its better if we use Kaveri 2.0 with 90KN (again if it happens)

Go for EJ200.. EU has a tiff with the US and courting you.. might just sweeten the deal little bit.

Possibly HAL waiting to see drawings for ToT before signing the dotted line.
In my view, he is implying disagreement on some points. probably ToT of something critical or supply chain control (sourcing tier 2-3 suppliers) from India without breaking OEM license.

Too little thrust.

While the Eurofighter requirement was for a 90kN engine it also specified that thrust should be upgradeable by 20% or by 30% if required. No partner ever asked. If India had asked a few years back, I think a derated EJ200 could have been used in Tejas, an upgraded EJ200 could have been used in Tejas Mk2 and a further upgraded EJ200 in AMCA (if more than 108kN was needed), Cheap way to cover all bases for the next 20+ years.

Too late now.

Slot in 2x RD-33MKs and call it a day. 176kn combined thrust, 4000 hours of engine life and 3 overhauls. Slot in 2x Kaveri derivatives later.

Russian Engine swap for GE 414 Engine.

America will make excuses to let GE supply 414 engines to India for MK2 fighter planes still under development. They created big nonsense problems to Supply 404 engines and came close to sabotage the LCA MK1 project. We blamed it to Biden stupidity but as Biden is gone and Trump; same type of delays are coming.

What is the reason?

To me it looks like that the reason is to sabotage the Indian fighter jet project.

Now is the time to look for alternatives!

Does Russia has engine which can fit in MK2 fighter without much fuss. This fighter is still in development stage. It can be reoriented to fit into Mk2. Does it have 80 to 100 kn power.

If Russia has then this is the time to switch to Russian engine and thumb America down. That is the best reply to GE and America.

Cheers

The Russians have an upgraded version of RD -33mk which they have upped to 108kn . Using technologies from the SU-57 M engine IZ-30 a fifth generation engine is possible . However the Russians being short of money want India to fund the develpment , like the British and the French .

chinese and porks got improved RD-93 and RD-93MA done from Ruskies, and chinese are even putting it on their F-35 copy FC-31 for now, so if it's good enough for them, should be good enough for us 🤷‍♂️
we are already sitting on RD-33MK that delivers ~53/88 kN thrust on non-afterburning/afterburning configuration; and we can get Ruskies 'help' (sic) to make something comparable to F414 in terms of thrust range, if not lifecycle or other parameters

we are stuck in this situation, it's better to 'swallow our pride' and loose some tax-chori ka paisa to better get it done, baki weimerican jizya toh dena hi padd rha hai upar se dependence ka patta hamare gale me daal diya jaega 🤷‍♂️

the only thing we don't have is TIME

it's doable but heh, then it'll kill prospects of muh MRCA tender altogether,
aisa kaise chalega bleedy civilian ji...

The Russian engine and the US engines have their gearboxes at different points .. (one is on the the side the other is at the bottom something like that). Changing the engine will require a new prototype and another round of certifications.

we have one prototype frame certified for RD-33 when O G F404 deal was hanging by a thread, they even ground tested it and certified its inlets for that engine, it's now catching dust in HAL bangalore's museum
(either KH-2001 or KH-2002)
so, some work was already done in that regard, they can resume it with all modern things in mind, it's time that RD-33 ground tested + air inlets certified airframe to be returned to HAL guys

I don’t think so

it flew with F404 early ones we got here, BUT before that one of these airframes were indeed ground tested with RD-33, note ground tested, Tejas never flew with that engine

and source is 'dude trust me' for now because i read it many times on good ol' D F I, it's etched in my memory...if someone saved Tejas related threads off that forum before it died, please try to share

paging mister @haldilal here

Ha ha. Good one.
I too have seen some pics. But those seems photoshopped.

Backup of Entire IAF section is saved on my system. Don`t know how I can share it though. Since it`s offline, search is not working, so did a cursory check with browser search and what I could find is pasted below

well it would be a hassle as 'search' feature is operable through Xenforo system and these must be static backup, so one will have to surf through entire threads after threads to find it; but yes this is a good screenshot there (y)
if someone has active account on bharat rakshak forum, try to search there, as it's still online and one of the oldest forum covering these things; use terms like 'kh2001' 'kh2002' along with usual 'LCA' 'RD-33' 'Tejas' and so
