Do you want to copy Trump? Business leaders propose a 100% tariff on Chinese products in Mexico amid rising smuggling and corruption in customs

MEXICO CITY.— The National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) of Mexico City has proposed a tariff of up to 100 percent on products from China. The initiative stems from the increase in illegally imported merchandise and the impact on formal trade, according to statements by its president, Vicente Gutiérrez Camposeco.

MEXICO CITY, May 22 (EL UNIVERSAL) – The president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Mexico City (Canaco CDMX), Vicente Gutiérrez, denounced a new method for selling Chinese products in the capital. These products are now relabeled with the words "Made in Mexico," which has generated losses of billions of pesos for established businesses.

Therefore, he proposed that the Ministry of Economy (SE) impose tariffs of up to 100% on Chinese products.

"One way to illegally introduce, import, or sell Chinese products is by relabeling them and labeling them with 'Made in Mexico.' That is, they bring them in, go to warehouses, and put the label on them there; this scheme is a new method these smugglers are using," he said.

Vicente Gutiérrez specified that the most frequently relabeled products are clothing, handicrafts, and footwear, as well as household appliances, toys, and keys.

The OEM-wise car sales figures for April 2025 indicate a tough start to the new financial year for most carmakers in India, excluding Mahindra and MG Motor, which were the only two brands to post positive growth compared to March 2025. Notably, Maruti held onto its top spot, while Mahindra climbed into the top three, joining Tata Motors, as Hyundai dropped in the rankings. Here's a detailed account of how the top 10 carmakers performed in April 2025.

Xi Jinping Won’t Fly on China’s C919, Windshield Cracked, Fearing Crash Without Boeing Parts

China’s domestically made C919 passenger jet has been hit with another major setback from the European Union. On April 28, Florian Guillermet, the Executive Director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), said it would take the agency three to six years to certify the C919, which is produced by China’s COMAC.

The parts produced in Querétaro are intended for LEAP-1B engines assembled in the United States to equip the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Safran's sixth plant delivered its first blades in October 2017. It currently employs 230 people and is expected to reach 600 by 2021. It projects an annual production of more than 20,000 blades and 31,000 OGV parts for that year.
Philippe Petitcolin, CEO of Safran, noted that Mexico will make an important contribution to the future of the group, which currently ranks as the third largest aeronautical player in the world.

Ultralight aircraft: Colombia is a technology exporter, selling domestically designed and manufactured light aircraft. For example, Ibis Aircraft S.A., Aeroandina S.A., and Aerodynos de Colombia S.A., based in Valle del Cauca, manufacture these vehicles, which are sold in the United States, Europe, Israel, and South Korea.

China’s Most Miserable Graduates with 10% Job Rate, Surviving Hell Mode on Just $100/Month

This year, 2025, is even harder for college students. The number of graduates keeps rising and reached over 12 million this year. On May 17, a graduate from Hubei said less than 10% of their class found jobs. The job market for graduates is very tough, and the unemployment wave is a big social concern.
