Chit Chat

I’m from Hyderabad. Live in a pretty posh place with a nice metro and wide highways.

But you live in the USA now correct? And you come from a wealthy place? You should instead spend some time outside of your "posh place with a nice metro and wide highways" to see what India really is like. I am from a "posh place" in UP but guess what, I spent time in the villages and countryside. It's not this dreamy vision you have. The only positive I can say is I didn't see any missionaries. That is seriously a saving grace, but given the filth, squalor, and poverty, surprising. These are genuine criticisms. It's disappointing that you are unable to bring up any relevant points.

Edit: I've said this before and I'll say it again. Infrastructure is more than just "nice metro" and "wide highways".

I’m not gonna share which apartment complex I live in but it’s nice and clean

It's not relevant to this discussion. I don't care where you are from or where you live. My point is India is dirty and Indians seem to take pride in how dirty India is. This is based on my observations over 30 days last month.

My family has homes in India and the US. We travel back and forth based on the season. I have a subsidiary based in India. I grew up in India until 9 years old. I had similar views like you when I was a child who experienced power cuts, bad infra. I don’t need a lecture about India being unclean. It’s just that living in the west, I have realized how unclean, unsafe and hypocritical it is of the west to critique India. I won’t entertain that anymore.

Actually why don’t you go to Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune?

Your point is that Indians don’t have the mindset to be clean: these are examples that contradict what you say.

Lol. Whatever dude. Excuses excuses, all I hear. I can drive down my street here and not see litter everywhere I look. It's aesthetically pleasing to look at. I can go for a walk outside and not inhale smog and pollution. I can go to a restaurant and wait in line for a table to be free. I don't have random strangers joining me and my family as I try to enjoy a meal out. Indians need to take better care of their environment and culture. It comes from the heart, not the government.

Where do you live in the states?

My brother went to Hyderabad and he enjoyed it. He found Mumbai to be extremely dirty and filthy (no surprise here!). He went to Chennai and said it was mediocre. I planned to return at some point, but I cannot deal with the squalor and extremely poor hygiene in hotels.

Again, Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, and Delhi? I didn't nickel and dime spending 5000 INR per night for a hotel room, especially when these were the priciest for certain areas.

If those places aren't available where I am, am I still nickel and diming? This is not relevant, again. I don't dispute that a Motel 6 (also btw many of these are Indian run-and-operated) doesn't have the highest hygiene standards, but when you're going for the most expensive in India for where you are, don't you think that's also saying something? And it's near universal in multiple parts of the country?
