I mentioned this lack of interest of 20 somethings who dominate this forum on cerebral issues , content to crowd threads like idiotic musings of our neighbours , small arms , special forces & the CI operations in Kashmir in a post to @ezsasa a few days ago , further speculating that the action seems to have shifted to X with the creme de la creme of the crowd , 2 decades ago who would make his first appearance on a forum such as this , now automatically choose X as a default forum ,with the result we don't attract the best of talent anymore.

I used to post on those threads but seeing it hardly attracted any eyeballs , gave up posting.

Discussion Boards such as these are a dying breed. You can see as much on the premier defence discussion board in India - BRF.

just googled it , went to reddit , all women were crying bad men and all then found this brother.
i teared up for his innocence.
Educated woman in her 20s, very active on social media, willingly does notty stuff in nude in front of cam to satisfy job requirement (which otherwise would have gone to the next willing in the long interview queue)….. and ‘bad men’?

Wah.

Rightly said.
Also the new forum has lesser cerebral discussions except few occasions and threads.
Half the time its cribbing and blaming bureaucrats generals and all. I have observed a particular bunch who can't write a single post without slandering something or the other, now I am no bureaucrat general worshipper but seeing the same thing everyday here and on X doesn't make this attractive, the forum has to be different than a whining platform, we all know what's the cause repeating it everytime something happens or fails doesn't make sense The technical discussions have largely vanished, barring a few topics. There used to be large analysis posts on DFI which are rare to see here.
New members don't contribute much, and by contributing I don't mean copy pasting X links like me. Most new members are just readers.
Even for the matter X has doesn't have the quality of discussions which used to happen on erstwhile forum. The old lot which was there on DFI still dominates the posts here on this forum
I could be wrong but you rightly said the forums are dying

on the bright side, this forum and the previous one predicted a lot of things months and sometimes years in advance. this is largely due to public information that was curated over years and absence of algorithms that curtail information, in this format whatever the information or opinions are stored they are in sequence and time stamped.

more well rounded the information available, more well rounded the assumptions and understanding of the real world.

even if it is a physical library, it's usefulness depends on a few who are invested in curating and maintaining it.

I'd also like to recite an old but similar ghastly act of doxxing that put a certain DFI oldie's life in danger, old time members and lurkers may know about it

so, apparently, there used to be "another Indian Defence Forum" out there, rumoredly one of the staffer there...was a pakistani 🤷‍♂️

now this DFIan guy, if my memory serves me right, went by "rahul singh" (with hanuman dada as DP) went into some verbal tu-tu-me-me on that "another" forum, and paki staffer doxxed him so bad, he was actually visited by some paki people at his home!

this all happened pre-jio era or very early jio era here so more than 10 years old tale

on teligram group, there's some former DFI mod members, i have asked them about admin panel of xenforo and what kind of stuff they store about members,
response was, every marker that can be used to identify and track a person, from IP address to unique machine code 🤷‍♂️

so to all 'saahasi' people here, be double aware of malicious ip links and whatever you post here in case you don't want to get doxxed; I know current DFB staffers are all our bhais, but better be cautious than later be sorry
We are verifying the IP address of the new users requests to ensure they are genuine accounts. Thats why there is no open registration here.
99% of times we filter out spams and bots and ensure genuine accounts get registered. In case someone manage to get through gets banned later on.

@Azaad @ezsasa @RDXChauhan bhaio i think a big reason forums are tanking down, is because Twitter drastically upped the words limit for posts; enabling them to churn out long threads with relevant material; then this tendency of using social media as both random banters as well as serious discussions (plus if you add various political propagandas at there too) have gone up, due to those social media sites allowing such people with their setups; and likewise the need for 'moderators' have also emerged there, something that shouldn't be happening at this level for a kind of platform that thumps on 'free speech' things

so this kind of cosy universalism that modern twitter, instagram even (although it's still focused on short videos thing) offers is a reason people are not that interested to switch to other, dedicated, moderated (depends) spaces with far less reach

i don't think discussions aren't happening, but they have started taking those things in more mainstream social media places

postscript - i'd also like to add that, the juggernaut that vastly harmed forums was none other than Reddit, but that too's taking a tall with outright extremist moderators running it like their personal spaces, and people getting overall tired of leftist overviews given open preferences there

We have discussed this in DFI as well as here. In general society has changed a lot in last 2 decades. Internet has reached every corner of the country. People no longer wait to reach their college computer labs, collect money to spend an hour in internet cafes to visit their dear forums anymore.

Internet is cheap and we have been bombarded with content everywhere. Attention span is down and per visit engagement is all time low.

Plus, twitter did have a long-lasting impact on how people use internet, most of the trending topics are now covered there and people tend to listen to spaces rather than going to any website to check the same.

If you are so desperate to have the final reply you can let me know. I do not mind.
That sentence was very good, much better than the previous one which was word salad accursing me of using word salad. Ironic but hilarious. I really have nothing else to say except that I've nominated you to head the Akim pity party committee. We can hold a party every 3 months.

No, thanks. Igors and Dimitries can continue killing each other for all I could care. Any conflict that keeps wypipos busy is a net positive for us - we get to refine cheap russkie crude and focus on our own business cuz nobody would bother us.

InshaGanesha! This war should never stop.

a net positive for "us" I think you should only mention yourself and your little circle of idiot, shallow friends you surround yourself with. There is nothing positive about your individual existence. You're a worthless evil POS. I'm sure you motto is misery loves company, that's why you love the company you currently have. Good luck growing old and then dying a pathetic idiot.
