A direct corridor to Central Asia would probably offset the cost of a war and sanctions in case we allow a bit more humans and a little less rights.
We have seen what happens when two countries go hog wild on each other in Russia and Ukraine.

Knowing full well that Russia will start breathing down West Europe's neck, Europeans just couldn't keep themselves from continuing their businesses with it.
Hell, America at this point is more of a neutral party than an ally to Ukraine for all we can see.
