DRDO and PSU's

A deal here and there will keep going to USA Russia and France . Because we will depend on them for next 30-40 years for existing critical systems be it rafale or scorpion or p8i or c17/ c130 and all kinds of helicopters.

Zero import doesn't happen even for America itself.

What matters is overall movement towards indeginous systems.

If not for modi lca would not be a 300+ jets program which it is now. Before we used to import all 800 of our fighter jets.
Now we are building 300+ of an indeginous design. With Amca and upcoming drones we will be building almost 70% of our jets indeginously. within next 15 years.

Most of our radars have become indigenous.
Most of our missiles are now being produced indeginously.

Helicopters fleet will be mostly indeginous with lch , luh and imrh.

People are focused on wrong things. We can't go 100% import to 0% just because we got out of bed and voted modi.

This will be a process and we are getting there.
How do you even defend Stryker over whap...... The damned Stryker is not even amphibious.

First of all it's not Modi, it was Parrikar, Gen. Rawat and few other unknown to us who dared to go against the usual and set things in motion for indie products. Will be forever grateful to them.
Ninda Turtle ji can't even compare to 1/10 of what Parikkar and others did. I always forget that he is even a defence minister.

Now, they have gone and there is full effort to revert back to kill the indie and import method.
Overall momentum towards indigenisation is being sabotaged, period. From current airchief, armychief and the usual import lobby, all are crying the same old wolf story for more imports now. EMerGEncY imports, superpower reeeeeeee.......

Radars and missiles were already on their way to self sufficiency way before the one who shall not be named came.

IDDM, DCPP and private participation has increased way much more thanks to efforts of Parrikar ji and yet in the 3rd term of BJP, no significant big deal has happened with them as of yet.

People here are indeed focused on the right thing in this forum. Have you been on former DFI, you would have known that people here genuinely wants India to become truly sovereign and not be a mere vassalguru. They have seen enough BS from this whole musing of MoD, forces and Chandigarh lobby to see what is right or wrong.

Stryker deal gets signed and well there's only one thing that comes in my mind for the topji who shall not be named, "a person who made the country bend and take american biggy boi and screw indigenisation. A moment of shame after which every private and psu company would rather take the shortcut and rename foreign products with Indian name and sell as IdDm, than participating in DCPP and learn make their own."

In my own parlance, this is treason and traitor like behaviour to me.

And does GOI doesn't even have any ounce of respect for India left that they have to make the country bendover and appease Americans, French, Israelis etc etc. and I thought Vassalguru big brains would have come up and tried to navigate the international politics while keeping head held high rather than putting it in someone's crotch. In an essence it's given and take but Stryker, they certainly could have dealt with this better, a very very low hanging fruit, either they are grossly incompetent, corrupt, compromised or all.

@Bleh
There you go Buddy, pretty much the whole shebang of air defence missiles
VSHORAD, VL-SRASM, QRSAM, MR-SAM, Akash-NG, Akash, Kusha-Mx, AAD and PDV

Not pictured here; Shakti (it's more of an experimental thing), Kusha variants (not much is known) and AD-1 (again not much is known).

Thanks so with a combo of AAD, Akash-NG & Astra-VL most layers can be covered for naval vessels.

QR-SAM & VSHORADS being more Army specific.

Why would drdo pass up on swashplate with 360° coverage ?
It's impossible to have 360° coverage with just one radar, no matter how much gymnastics you do with swash plates.

Even if you theoretically traverse your swash plate ±90° then also you'll have just 270° of coverage [2x (45° electronic beem steering + 90° mechanical swash plate traversing)]. And if you mechanically traverse beyond 90° then the fuselage of the fighter itself would start blocking your radar.

Now look at that gutterchap BEL screwdriving radars since eternity. All our radars of future are gonna be from private players. Astra Microwave is doing Uttam. Some private company is doing future naval radars. The long range space radar is also from private company. Of course all with LRDE in partnership. But production quality, private player own r&d can be expected that too very fast.

The team behind ASTRA microwave comprises experienced engineers, predominantly from esteemed organizations like DRDO, BEL, LRDE, and other PSUs. A glance at their LinkedIn profiles reveals their impressive credentials. It's evident that their tenure at DRDO, BEL, and other PSUs has equipped them with invaluable knowledge and expertise, which they're now leveraging to drive innovation at ASTRA microwave.

get a load of this guy 😭😭

Why do so many self-proclaimed defense experts advocate for the privatization of HAL? If there are already numerous private players in India, why aren’t they investing their resources to develop advanced technologies like sixth-generation fighters for the country? Would privatizing HAL truly address all the existing challenges, such as inefficiencies, delays, and technological gaps? Moreover, if privatization were to happen, is there a guarantee that private companies would invest significantly in research and development, given the high costs and risks involved? If they are capable of doing so, what is stopping them from making such investments right now?

Additionally, HAL has been a cornerstone of India’s defense ecosystem for decades, with deep institutional knowledge and expertise. Would privatization risk losing this legacy and the strategic control the government currently holds over such a critical sector? Private companies often prioritize profitability, so how would this align with national security interests, which may require long-term, non-lucrative investments?

Furthermore, if HAL is privatized, what mechanisms would ensure that the workforce, which includes highly skilled engineers and technicians, is retained and not compromised ? And what about the potential for foreign entities to gain influence over such a strategically important organization? Would privatization open the door to foreign control, and how would that impact India’s defense autonomy?

IA is interested in M-SHORAD.
Though we've everything from WhAP as a platform, locally made 2A42 gun, Tonbo's EO systems, VSHORAD to radars from Astra or BEL but yeah; on paper M-SHORAD seems to be the most logical choice if we're indeed acquiring Stryker to fullfill some gaps.

But then again, when have we ever been known for our logical choices in defence procurement?!
