Simply increasing budget wouldn't fix things. Maybe bump and cap it at $100B for the next decade but the need of the hour is efficient utilization of the current budget. While a good chunk goes in salaries, pensions, OPEX etc...the % allocation for procurements and R&D is low atm

Every year, the forces return a good amount of their funds back to the treasury. FY 24-25 for instance has seen MoD returning ~$3B which is a combination of unspent capital and revenue expenditure

Isn’t Putin offered manufacturing of Su 57 in India Using HAL Nashik Su 30 production line?

Sukhoi 30 MKI - 1st gen Tata safari based on ladder frame.

SU-57 - 5th gen safari which is an D8 platform (monocoque).

You need complete retooling. These are planted news based on IAF success with S400 and stealth plane.

Kusha is ready for test. The radar is already ready. Missile fabrication is going on.

AMCA- Various subsystems under development. Fund them instead of wasting on foreign jets.

Putin offer isn’t planted news it’s legit offer which made orange man trump loose his shit and offer F35 unilaterally in media without US congress consent. Putin has offered S-500 joint development as well in 2021 itself and now again after Operation sindoor success of S-400 the reports of joint development have re surfaced.

Kusha is desi S-400 which is at-least 1-2 years far (to go into mass production) I hope they hasten it ASAP.
AMCA no matter how optimistic timeline it’s not coming before 2035(mass production)

If need arises for a stop gap 5th gen fighter we have only 2 options F35 ( become American bitch for next 40 years ) or Su 57E - autonomy(orange man will lose his shit and may put sanctions on us)

Meanwhile IAF will keep dreaming of 114 MMRCA which may go for another 40-56 Rafales.

Directly increasing budget won't help unless we revamp the entire defence procurement process itself.
Porkies have budget of 7 billion but still maintains all the equipmentss
You cannot directly compare porky budget with ours. Their military, like Turkish and Egyptian militaries control lots of businesses. Profits from those get channeled back to pensions, welfare of veterans, etc. Also, their veterans get jobs in these companies.

Plus, the army owns the state in Pakistan's case, so I wont be surprised if their budget is not transparent and other developmental money is also routed to army somehow.

India successfully tests its latest counter-drone system ‘Bhargavastra’

ANI video screengrab

India successfully tested its latest counter-drone system ‘Bhargavastra’ at the Seaward Firing Range at Gopalpur in Odisha on Wednesday.

Designed and developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd (SDAL), Bhargavastra is a low-cost counter drone system, developed in hard kill mode. The counter-drone system works with multiple micro rockets fired at the designated targets.

According to the reports, two trials were conducted on May 13 by firing one rocket each.

Equipped with advanced detection and engagement capabilities, the system can identify and neutralise small, incoming drones at ranges of up to 2.5 km. It employs a two-tiered defence approach: an initial layer of unguided micro-rockets capable of disrupting drone swarms within a 20-metre lethal radius, followed by a second layer of guided micro-missiles—previously validated through testing—for precision strikes against individual targets.

Engineered for rapid deployment across varied terrains, including high-altitude environments exceeding 5,000 metres, the system is tailored to meet the diverse operational needs of India’s armed forces.

Showcasing the system’s adaptability and affordability, SDAL underscored its fully indigenous design, featuring purpose-built rockets and micro-missiles specifically developed to counter hostile UAVs. The system is modular in architecture, allowing for the optional integration of a soft-kill layer that enables jamming and spoofing to complement the kinetic kill options. The system is also designed for seamless integration with existing network-centric warfare infrastructure.

Listen , your points are indeed valid are good .
But we are known users of russi maal.
Sukhoi 30 mki performed superb.
IF we ought to buy, buy su 57 .
Change avionics to ours , plus we have experience in dealing with Russians .that's why
Russia is depleted due to ukraine war and can't produce enough due to sanctions.Cnc machines, actuators, electronics etc are now unavailable in russia and it depends on china. You don't want to buy planes with chinese electronics in it.

Y'all nibbiars, unable to find info about this anywhere else, but it is original Aakash missile

View attachment 35786

Larger in size than Akash NG?

View attachment 35787

Or do they have more or less sem2sem physical dimensions.
Lol. This confuses most people.
I am not sure why Akash-NG was named 'Akash' as it has absolutely nothing in common with the original Akash.
NG is basically a new missile altogether and very similar to the work we did on MRSAM/LRSAM with Israel ( which has Barak8 as underlying system).
NG uses dual pulse rocket motors, which is the most commonly used method of propulsion for medium range SAMs and AAMs these days.

The original Akash, on the other hand, is heavily inspired by Buk missile system and uses a Solid Fuel Rocket Booster and then Ducted Ramjet Sustainer. This makes it v v heavy but deadly as the missile is powered throughout its flight time.

Read up on the difference between rocket and ramjets and you will understand that the underlying tech is v v different.

Moreover, at a system level, NG is at least 2 generation ahead in Radars etc.

Swarm Drone threat

Development of emerging technologies coupled with miniaturization of components has resulted in exponential proliferation of hostile aerial targets with low RCS like Drones, UAVs, UCAVs and RPAs, especially along the Northern Borders. The Artificial Intelligence softwares/algorithms have further enhanced the lethality of these minaturized aerial platforms by providing options of individual or swarm of drones attacks/incursions with multiple payloads for survelliance as well as destruction.

These low cost aerial platforms provide cheaper and more flexible options than high maintenance aircrafts to target own assets. In particular, the swarm of drones configuration poses a credible assymetric threat to all assets deployed in the tactical battle area.

These may be employed against Armoured/Mechanized concentrations, Gun Areas, Logistic echelons, Vehicle Columns, deployed Headquarters and various other tactical targets including troops in open. Swarm of drones capability with over 3000 individual units/drones has been displayed. The drones are now combatized to deliver a destructive payload on the intended targets while they continue to be used extensively for surveillance purposes.

However, swarm of drones threat has inherent structural vulnerabilities and can be countered with an integrated and cohesive response. Therefore, there is an urgent requirement of developing and procuring weapon systems for countering and neutralising this emerging threat of Swarm of Drones.

In the lights of the same, Indian army has asked for 48 Vehicle Mounted Counter Swarm Drone System which was given AIP in September 2022 under Make-II category.

Bhargavastra – counter-drone system

In November 2022, a report was published by ForbesIndia featuring the Solar Industries Chairman, SN Nuwal. The article has touched upon various products being developed by Solar Industries and the one which sounds very interesting is the Bhargavastra. SN has said that his firm has been granted permission to manufacture hard kill measure integrated with Laser as well as missiles to neutralize the UAVs. The company has already tested the mechanism. Once developed it will be quite effective against the swarm drone attack.

As per SN Nuwal, the system will be completely ready in next 2 years. This system can be deployed on stationary as well as mobile platform covering various aspects of threat environment.

Capabilities of Bhargavastra

Bhargavastra is a counter UAV system mounted on a 4X4 vehicle. The most important component of the counter drone system is going to be accurate situational awareness which allows for quick coordination and effective responses to rapidly changing operational scenarios. This becomes even more critical when dealing with swarm drones because they are huge in numbers and can come from multiple directions. Therefore, Bhargavastra features C4I i.e. Computers, Communications, Intelligence and Command & Control system.

The C4I system is not just one system but consists of multiple systems such as Command & Control Center, Radar & EO/IR sensor, AI, launchers with missiles, counter measures & data link.

The system makes use of both radar and EO/IR sensors to detect swarm drones. It features 4 radars places at 90 degrees, thereby providing 360 degree of coverage.

It has a very good detection range. It can detect a 0.01m square RCS target from a distance of 5km or more. The system takes less than 16s from detection to respond and intercept. It can simultaneously engage 64 targets.

The system uses micro missiles to intercept the incoming drones. It has 64 micro missiles in ready to fire condition which can be launched in different directions. These missiles are even capable of lock on after launch and can home on to the target. It can destroy up to 16 drones in seven seconds.

The multiple missiles can be launched in interval of just 1 second which makes it a perfect solution for handling the swarm drone attack

Just a little correction - Akash 1 is the spiritual successor to the SA-6 (Kub) SAM system, not Buk.
