The Kaveri as it exists today is dead . IMO just as the KED is a DERIVATIVE of the original Kaveri TF & NOT the original Kaveri , similarly we'd see a new project launched to realise a TF meeting the original tech specifications of the Tejas which is 55 - 60 KN dry thrust & 85 - 90 KN wet thrust or something as close to the F-404 as possible.

People here ought to sharpen their analytical powers a bit & not react like lay people if they've been regulars on a forum , any forum for a length of time.

Have we spent ~ 2500 cr on the Kaveri just like that only to dump whatever we've achieved & learnt in the process ? If the answer is yes then I've nothing to say .

However if the answer is no , try to probe deeper & read between the lines or headlines in this case & learn to distinguish sensationalism from facts .

Anantha Krishna should've pinned him down on whether there is a NEW program to build indigenous TF to power the MK-1a & later the Mk-2 during the MLU. He didn't & the matter was left at that leading to all manner of speculations & negative comments.

It's similar to the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program. OG IGMDP has been closed long back, but the technologies developed there can be traced even in today's missile projects as per requirements.

Similarly even if "Orginal" Kaveri Program has been closed, through KDE and several future projects the technologies can be further refined. Remember todays Kaveri engine has lot of redesigned components than OG Kaveri that it can be called a new engine all together.

Also Aerospace is designing new afterburner for new KDE, so works on afterburner Kaveri is not still not dead. It's ongoing on a different project.

Yeah, we will not see Tejas flying with Kaveri, but that was kindoff expected.

That's nonsense. Earlier it was thought the KED would be tested on the Ghatak & certified following which it'd be mated with an AFB & then flight tested aboard an FTB. This would take a good 4-5 years from the commencement of flight testing.

We don't know when will it commence for the Ghatak hasn't received CCS sanction. In between there was some speculation that this being a secret project , it could've received CCS sanction without any public acknowledgement of it. Prima facie it doesn't appear to be so as Ghatak isn't a black project.

Meanwhile , BAPL has already been contacted to develop AFBs which will be mated with the KED. This means they'd be ready to test the KED with AFB TF aboard an FTB much before it's been certified as flight worthy on the Ghatak.

If this isn't the likely scenario what exactly are they going to do with this TF then ? All this news can be verified as it's in the public domain.

Yeah well , neither is Ghatak a mission mode project nor is it a black project which means all such news of CCS clearance must be in the public domain. If it isn't , then it means it hasn't received CCS clearance.

They need to shut down the Kaveri Engine program. It's not like we didn't learn anything from it's failure or for that matter we are not laying off engineers who worked on it. Since the engine was concieved long ago when we were weak in metallurgy, it's time to design a new engine with a clean slate. The first thing they need to keep in mind while designing the engine is to keep it's weight in check. They should aim for an engine which weighs less than 1000 kgs and it should produce 75 KN dry thrust and 100 KN wet thrust.

M88 weighs just 900 kgs but produces 50 KN dry and 75 KN thrust. Safran is now developing M88 T-Rex by keeping the same weight and size but delivering 20% more thrust. So I think it is possible to build a engine which can weigh <1000 kgs and deliver 100 KN thrust.

DRDO has lot of research on it's hands which it has made in the last few years with respect to metallurgy. It should utilize it and build a engine which can deliver the required thrust. In the mean time, another team should be tasked with building test facilities for high altitude testing. Ideally, bring in experts and convert one of the IL-78 into flying test bed and utilize the old kaveri engine to test it initially.
