even if boars are revered, consumption of boar meat was a norm,
Says who ?
there was a really 2008-2009 era DFIan oldie went by username "F14", worked as moderator of the good ol' D F I as well for some time, he's a keralian, and he used to lament on teligram sides how much he wished for pork meat to be normalised in his society, that just 100 some years ago in pre-independence India boar-pork meat was consumed a lot there...but it all changed with mooplahz there taking over and turning it into a taboo because muh haram things and now pork's hard to normalise there
Must be a Progressive Mellu Hindu - a perfect educated illiterate idiot , the kind who brought in communism in Gerala , fled Gerala coz of it & what's more , wishes the entire world adopt communism benefiting thru it .
It's either that with these Mellu Progessive Hindus or some variation of the same thought process. Tomorrow if news reached them that the progressive west has made individual choices paramount , enshrining into the constitution as freedom of choice which means technically you could marry your mom , guess which way will Progessive Mellu Hindu roll ?
On topic , I've never come across any such preference for boar meat or pork in Malayali society in the past . Not sure what it is now .
In fact this beef preference owes itself to principally two phenomena - the rise of the Sakhavu brigade in Gerala & as with this breed everywhere in the world is to act against societal traditions targeting the majority religion everywhere which meant the church & the feudal class in the west , Confucian values & feudal class in China out here it meant Sanatan Dharma & the UCs.
Hence if beef is a taboo , it's beef we need to get on the menu . The other part of it is employment in the Gulf & exposure to these societies & their traditions where meat used to be imported from all over the world especially India including beef which is the cheapest form of protein in the market , something which the ordinary labour class could afford in local restaurants there with none of the known taboos from back home .
By & large the Gerala preference for beef comes from these two sources. Further what passes off for beef in Gerala is mostly carabeef.
i know about kantara movie, and varaha is just one of 'graam devta' tier deity worshipped among those tribal-ish people, there are many of them, so perhaps a limited part of sanatan umbrella didn't consume it there, rest did- perhaps still do
Tribal ish people ? You've got to be kidding . Bhuta Kola , Naga dharane is part of mainstream Sanatan rituals in coastal Karnataka & parts of Gerala.
Does that mean boars weren't consumed in pre modern India or pigs weren't domesticated for consumption ? Usually it was restricted to the outcastes & marginalized communities peripheral to viz Dalits & scheduled tribals respectively although here too it depends on how strong local taboos were !
i've personally seen sikhs in gujarat side working as 'boar catchers' in various municipalties here, throwing loops at them, capturing and later sending them off 'somewhere' which is usually assumed they just end up butchering and consuming them lol
Yes & do you know how & why did they develop this habit of trapping slaughtering & consuming boar meat ? One of the first acts a convert to Islam during the past millenium was subjected to was to break his gram devata / kuldevata with his own hands , participate in community eating which means off the same thali or plate & most importantly eat beef apart from marrying his cousins.
So how the the Sikhs react ? By doing the exact opposite . Since idolatry was frowned upon by them , also eating off the same plate , the first thing a convert was required to do was to eat pork . This was also deemed important to weed out potential traitors from their midst when they were facing severe persecution from the Mughals & later the Afghans. The habit stuck & continued into modern times.
This is also where the concept of kutha meat or jhatka came from with halal being considered a taboo . Having sexual relations with a peaceful was also a taboo. Till date both these taboos are prevalent among the observant . Even if you neglect the second one , you'd never come across a Sikh dining at a peaceful restaurant or buy halal meat , forget consuming it.
