Ghost Stories and Pranormal Activies

The Ghost of Sanjauli Road

When I was a kid, I heard some ghost stories, and that amused me. As I grew up, I began not to believe the stories. For the next 50 years, I read about them and heard about them, but because they were never trusted, I never believed them. Not until, in 2007, I went to visit my brother in law (my cousin sister’s husband) Des Raj*, who lived and worked in Sanjauli throughout his life. After a few pleasantries and one of the best Pahari lunches, we settled down for gossip. I often visited them, although not recently, since I live in Canada. Quite a few times, I would pay them a short visit when I am in Shimla. During a short and quick visit, except for family discussions, we never had time to talk about anything else. This time in 2007, Des Raj and I spoke extensively. He wished to know about Canada and I wanted to know about his welfare. From the appearance, they were a prosperous lot. Their kids, all the reputable businessmen had built palatial houses. They took over the family business and expanded it multifold. My cousin sister passed away a few years ago and Des Raj in his late seventies welcomed visitors and relatives for a gossip and good times. This time he asked me to stick around for old times' sake. I didn't want to let him down and after a few apologies, I said yes and a message was sent to Shimla, my in-laws. After dinner the conversation switched to the already known stories of ghosts which were so lively at my younger age.

* name changed

These stories, which were real experiences, linked to 4 ghosts that were wondering about Lakkar Bazaar to Sanjauli Road. This road used to be a beautiful woodland walk and pleasant also in the fifties. As you passed the Snowdown Hospital, you came across at a distance in the valley, the Walker Hospital, in a very well positioned meadow. Then you walked past the pump house, which I believe pumped water to the upper reaches of Shimla like Jakhoo etc. Later you walked past the BT Training College (now the Government College for Boys), then you knew that Sanjauli is just round the next curve. I preferred this walk. In previous years, you could cycle to Sanjauli in a rental bike (only 2 Annas per trip). If you were returning from the city at night past 10.00pm, cycling was a preferred means. In case you walked your way at night, then it was well known that you will run into the resident ghosts of the road. That's what happened in the 1950's.

At that time, the Snowdon Hospital had just opened, so the road to Sanjauli or Lakkar Bazaar was mostly empty, except for some day walkers who were going to the hospital or going further to Sanjauli. It usually was deserted at night. After nightfall, people returning from Shimla travelled in groups and mainly used a bike. And so my story begins:

Des Raj in his younger days, together with boys of his age will come to Regal Cinema (now defunct) watch a late show and at midnight or so, cycle back to Sanjauli. I am sure their parents did not like that, but if they had gone after a full day’s of work, then they were allowed but pre-warned about running into ghosts while returning. Therefore, the parents' advice was that, if you need to go, then stay in a group.

Every time they passed the pump house around midnight, fearing ghosts, they pretended not to look in that direction. Still abnormal lights will blink inside the small building and voices could be heard. They will quickly move on and pretend that nothing has happened. Since they were a group of 3 or 4, hence cycle past without looking was normal. At home, they did not tell anyone, for fear of being prevented from leaving next time. This did not happen every time, but did happen sometime. The movie they had watched an hour earlier had something to do with it. Those scary scenes from the movie invariably began to flash into their head and the pump station became the real life plot. Often they were distracted and sometimes frightened with sights and sounds inside the pump station. Unmindful they will continue and reach home.

Once returning after a movie, they got off the bicycles a few hundred feet before the pump house because of the wind and pushed the bicycle until the road levelled a bit. As Des Raj said, he put his foot on the paddle to get on the bicycle and looked up, - there were four characters in white clothes standing on the road, their faces and features could not be seen clearly. Those images lasted four or five seconds. As they paddled past, nothing could be seen. ..... just nobody. His friends didn't see anything, so they all continued. It's not quite right, his friends had come across this experience earlier. Even this time, they had experienced, but not as much as Des Raj did. He called his friend and did not say anything other than to reassure himself that there was mutual support. Same voices and lights were emanating from the pump house. They cycled past as fast as they could without waiting, making sure all four of them are together. Then seconds later when they were 50 yards further from the pump house, they could feel that they are being chased from the mountain side by somebody calling them by name. There was only one thing left for them to do, that is to cycle as fast as they could and reach the ‘Rest Shed’ about half a mile ahead on the road side. Here they stopped and got off their bikes and looked back. There was nothing in the yonder. Did they imagine something or the ghosts were really chasing them just a few minutes earlier, they wondered? They patted each other for making out of the ghost pit unscathed and continued further to their homes. They never shared that experience with their elders at all.

Eventually, the local temple priest explained that this was not the first time it had happened. Sanjauli is the sole Hindu cremation site in Shimla. During the day time when the dead bodies are being carried for cremation, they break the earthen pitcher as part of the ritual to let Soul escape and peacefully depart the body. This pitcher is broken near or about the pump house. The priest rationalized that the wandering spirits are in and around the pump house only and have been there for ages. They never bother anybody, but the fear is still there if you knew that they were there.

Now I kept listening to the story that scared me too, and I decided not to take a late night walk on this road. He continued by saying that these ghosts/spirits reside these days in the new hospital. People over there have experienced them, but they have not harmed anybody. People in the hospital have at night experienced shutting doors, disappearing items and the staircase noises. Experiences like these scare people, hence they venture out less at night.

What is the level of credibility of these stories, - I do not know? But my brother-in-law is a highly credible person (he passed away four years back). Modern science debunks these stories, but our mind is unable to get rid of them.

Cheers.......

Abnormal activities

Few places experience abnormal activities at certain times (mostly around 2AM), I heard these from my relatives . These places are Railway stations , railway hospitals & government hospitals
Its depend in any death incident happened there, otherwise i spend full night in dehradun nd haldwani railway station with my friend. nothing happened, neither we heard any horror inccident in most above mention places. this 2 AM to 3 AM time period of most ghostly activity is christian myth. hindu believe is horror incident happened any time from dawn to sun rise. but most ghost activity timeline is 12 AM to 4 AM (brahm muhurt).
But our pahadi believe hv some addition on this. ghost didnt appear in daytime...but they can do possession (chhal lagna) any person, even daytime also...mostly in forest, pound, river, silent places etc. or mujhe yahi theory sahi lagti hai, coz bachpan me mujhe 3 times chhal (possession) lag chuka hai. coz summer me hum ek chote se river me nahane jaate the. or sirf mujhe hi chhal laga or kisi bhi saath me aaye huwe frnd ko nhi laga. but vo chhal dangerous wala nhi tha. usme sirf meri tabiyat kharab huwi, us river me nahane ke baad. mujhe to normal hi tabiyat kharab laga. but jab jhaad phook krne wale ko bulaya to usne vibhuti (raakh) lagaya maathe pe nd fir dusre din hi tabiyat theek ho gayi. nd un jhaad phook wale ko 6-7 din baad hi bulate the, hospital me dikhane ke baad.
sayad mujhe 3 time jo chhal laga tha, us ghost ki power jyada powerful nhi thi, ya humari kuldevi "nanda devi" ki vajah se vo jyada harm nhi kar paya. but mene 3 case dekhe hai chhal ke...jisme meri pehchan ke two boys nd one girl ko chhal laga tha. nd unka haal to filmo me jesa dikhate hai vaisa ho gaya tha. i mean khud nd dusro per attack krna, haste haste fir rona, chillana, bhari aawaz me bolna, khud ko koi or batana, gaaliya dena ghar walo ko, or ye sab krke kuch bhi yaad na hona etc. bhai humare yaha (uttarakhand) me jo jhaad phook wale hote hai, ya fir jinme koi devi/devta aate hai...ve to sidhe thappad marna start kr dete hai, agr koi chhal laga huwa aadmi unke samne aata hai to nd fir vo theek bhi ho jaate hai. pahado me bhoot dikhne se jyada chhal lagne wala incident jayda common hota hai... jisme kuch horror inccident bhi nhi hota, but bhoot lag/chipak jaata hai. fir ya to tabiyat hi kharab rehti hai, ya fir vo person ajeeb harkate krta hai. nd chaal bhi 3 type se solve hote hai...agr mild wala chal laga hai to thappad marne nd vibhuti lagane se solve ho jaata hai (like in my case)...second case me special pooja krte hai. nd third extreme case me murgi nd bakri ki bali (sacrifice) dete hai. but bali dena bhut rare hota hai chhal ke mamle me. 🥶🥶

My relatives said that abnormal activities happen between 12 and 3:30 AM (HIGHEST AROUND 2 AM) , brahmamuhurt starts around 3:30 AM , they said one shouldn't stay awake between 12 & 3:30 AM bcoz Bhoot, pisach, aatma etc get too powerful in the said period they might cause harm . Its is advised to wakeup only after 3:30 AM . Generally govt hospitals & railway stations see most no of suicides . So high chance of their aatma roaming there

hmmm....but bro brahm muhurt 4 baje ke baad ka mana jaata hai. winter me jab subah 6 baje bhi andhera hota hai, tab bhi mene horror incident hone ke baare me suna hai. even kuch incident to sham ke time ke hai, jab halka halka andhera hona start ho jaata hai. i think andhera hona ke baad hi aisi power active hoti hai,,, ya fir koi andhera sunshan haunted house. vaha par ghost etc din me bhi active reh sakti hai.

Mai toh winters mai 5-6 k beech mai hi running k liye jaata hu mere dog k sath except one time I never experienced anything as such.
Around 5-6am as I said this last winters heavy fog, as usual I was running near the wall of an Airport cause it’s clutter free and smooth road best for running we were running suddenly my dog stopped and was barking towards the bushes and my dog is a very well trained dog he never barks at anything until it’s real danger he doesn’t even bark on street dogs, now this road is very well lit but it was heavy fog so I didn’t see shit and I don’t really believe in it so I calm my dog down and just kept running and it never happened to me again but my dog was furious that day like he actually saw something I just came to know about the timing shit you are saying so it all make sense lol.

yeah...most active time for ghost is near 12 AM to 4 AM....but i heard many stories in which ghostly incident happened in evening nd morning also, when there is darkness.
In uttarakhand we believe even in day time, if u wander near jungle, lake, river, silent places etc....ghost can possess (we called it chhal) u, without showing itself to u. chances can increase, if:-
1:- u shout at these places.
2:- do pee or spitting.
3:- get wounded suddenly.
4:- feel fear.
5:- if u put purfume etc.
6:- additionally in girl case, if she is beautiful (tharki bhoots r active in pahad😁)...or she open his hairs.
these r ghostly myths/truth of pahad.

Yes peeing makes ghost extremely angry on the person who has peed because they eat through their smell and they don't like the smell. I mean no one would like it if I go to their house and pee their. Trees are house for the ghost and many people pee under the tree and that makes entity very angry and the possession starts. Also if someone has used perfume, Even then they can get possession, because entity eats through their smell and in case of God, they eat through their sweet gaze 👍🙏

does these paranormal incidents will go on to become a thing of past in future, let say half a century from now?? places are rapidly urbanizing and these incidents are mostly heard in rural or small town. Many people including me must have had couple of encounters but for me it was always something of fun in my boring life. 😅 😅never took it too seriously.

Even today or in future if there would be actual serious experiences of people it won't gather much attention as people will shy away from being labelled as unscientific or looney.

Tourist places often try to sell local legends, myths, and folklore to attract younger generations. While many people enjoy these cultural thingy but it's uncertain whether belief in such supernatural phenomena will persist in the coming years. It's more likely that these themes will continue to be just limited to artistic and commercial contexts, such as movies, games, and literature (or podcasts) and disappear from personal experiences.

i will recall a story i told in the old forum. I was working in a military hospital and
a world war 2 veteran told me his story. He was stationed in the south pacific in a
very remote island near iwo jima which was high priority to the allies. The soldier was
young probably 18 years old . He was in a unit which was holding the island. He was with
his unit in the jungle when he heard the japanese approaching from the other side of the
island, he watched as soldiers in his units started dropping from the firefight with the
japanese. Before he knew it he was the only one left alive He panicked he did not know
what to do when someone tapped him on his shoulder he turned around and it was a soldier
in an American uniform and he saw his name tag he did not say anything but pointed in a direction,
without hesitating he started running. He said he was running so fast he felt like he was flying of the ground. He crossed the whole island and hid until reinforcements came and Americans took back the island
He was helping collect the bodies to place in body bags and he came across the corpse of the
soldier who pointed him to safety. He said his whole life he did not know why he was the
only one who survived and if the soldier who pointed him to safety was alive or after he had died
when he was tapped on the shoulder?
