MoD is probably looking to utilise Japanese test facilities. Otherwise I can't see what exactly are we going to collaborate with the Japanese on . The KED is in the process of being validated. Japan isn't in contention to partner us for the 120 KN TF project.

Our 750 HP & 1500 HP engines for forthcoming ventures are already in a pretty advanced stage of development.

All this means the only possible reason we're seeking such a collaboration is coz we want to utilise their test facilities which are pretty advanced & state of the art.

I wonder when will we shed our penny pinching mindset. This is beyond ridiculous.


Just to give you an idea how important testing facilities are, using a formula1 example:

1. which is the most successful team in F1 history in terms of constructors championship ?
A: Ferrari
2. which is the highest budget team in F1 history ?
A: 50-60s : Ferrari 60s-70s: Brabham 70s: Ford 80s: Williams 90s: McLaren 2000s: Renault 2010s: Red Bull & mercedes.
3. Which is the ONLY team in formula1 to have its own personally owned test circuit ?
A: Ferrari.
 
I don't understand why MoD babus are unwilling to fund GTRE for building test facilities.

Kaveri is underpowered and Overweight for even LCA forget Mk2.
The only use case for Kaveri(Wet) in our case would have been a double engine Medium fighter but for some reason even didn't get picked up.
Instead of HLFT-42 HAL could have worked on a double engine trainer with geometric stealth and IW/Recessed bays only.
Upgrades like EOTS and IRST, MAWS could have been done later if needed.

Kde has blisk, single crystal blades, i dont remember the exact alloy name but it was good, maybe 3rd or 4th gen sx superalloy blade of nickel, if needed they would lighten the bypass duct material too
Front inlet fan has changed, high distortion tolerant for serpentine intakes

The weight reduction excercise has worked out in shedding some weight but it still is 1100+ Kg IIRC.

naah man, it would be stupid to integrate eots or any niche maws or irst on a trainer, already they are giving GaN radar, that alone would propel the cost upwards
if they give all these then this "trainer" would cost upwards of 150 million usd, in this much you can get 3 trainers,
our target was to keep the cost low like in bw 40-50 m usd, use basic manufacturing techniques to keep cost low, production high, thats why they went with existing design and negligible composite use, almost full metal buid
