GTRE GTX 35VS Kaveri (5 Viewers)

Trap
Japan is not allowed to export anything that can be used by military as a weapon, it's literally in their constitution.
The french offer is the most realistic one right now
No.
"Under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan relaxed its arms export rules:

The 2014 “Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology” replaced the old policy.

Now, Japan can export defense equipment under strict conditions — such as contributing to peace and international cooperation."

Some exports and attempts( lost of competitors).

1. Patrol Boats to the Philippines (2016–2022)

Type: 12 40-meter multi-role response vessels.

Buyer: Philippine Coast Guard (via Official Development Assistance).

Use: Maritime security and anti-piracy (technically “non-lethal,” but military-grade equipment).

Builder: Japan Marine United (JMU).

2. Radar Systems to the Philippines (2020)

Type: Fixed and mobile air surveillance radars.

Buyer: Philippine Air Force.

Purpose: To strengthen air defense and detection of intrusions in the West Philippine Sea.

Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Electric.

3. Air Surveillance Radars to Indonesia (Approved 2021)

Type: Similar to the Philippine radar deal.

Buyer: Indonesian Air Force.

Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Electric.

Use: Border protection and maritime security.

⚠️ Attempted or Proposed Exports That Fell Through

4. Submarines to Australia (2014–2016) – Failed Bid

Type: Sōryū-class diesel-electric submarines.

Details: Japan competed to supply Australia with new subs under the SEA 1000 project.

Outcome: Lost to France's Naval Group (now under review again as of 2021–2022).

We also got ToT for those Unicorn Radars for our frigates no??!! Japan is a natural partner for us, but US's stronghold isn't allowing it (more like drip feeding it). One of the reason Shinzo Abe is not in the world anymore!

So, why Kaveri is limited to 1700K TET, while M88 has 1850K TET, when using similar materials?

Answer lies in air cooling of the blades, now another question is why couldn't we develop blades with similar air cooling, answer is We simply don't have the manufacturing capability, so the focus of our R&D should also be in development of Machine Tools, Instead of begging for these machine tools all around the world

ISRO Semicryo engine is facing delays precisely because of lack of manufacturing know-why, NOT design Know-why, they are struggling with brazing of Regeneratively cooled Combustion chamber & Nozzle

My only grouse is why this system is not pointy ?
It looks like a thingy stacked upon a ship.

Current DMS4 alloy + YSZ-LZ based Bi-layer TBC combination can also reach 2100K TET if we use proper air cooling architecture in the blades ,but for that we have to develop a method to SC casting of blades with proper internal channels and also develop Laser drilling Machine Tools to drill very very tiny holes

As per Saurav Jha:

Kaveri Derivative Engine(KDE) has completed some 75 hours of FTB testing in Russia, ~25 hours of testing is left.

Performing well.

Moneycontrol said that it would be integrated on ftb in September 2025. And he says 75 hours testing done.

All we can do is that it reaches its target and stability with some efficiency so that it sees the sunrise with tejas

Baba Kalyani talked about this Jet engine problem few years back during COVID Time. His tentative timeline for indigenous Turbofan is 10 years. This 10 years includes, participation of both Private and GTRE to build the final product. Designing is one thing, but translating to proper manufacturing is whole new gravy. (Similar to INSAS where the design is not the problem, but the manufacturing pretty much killed the gun itself). Current practice seems to be GTRE/DRDO working on test prototypes along with manufacturing process, Later they ToT to private vendors. Baba Kalyani suggestion is to get the private companies on board from starting so we cannot waste time on ToT absorption.

Again, MOD babus should acquire an FTB first. Currently waiting for slot in Russian Plane is joke.

Also hightime if we are serious, we should convert one of the IL-76 of IAF into an Flying Test Bed (FTB).

I remember seeing something similar don't know from where tho...

From Moneycontrol,

According to an ANI report quoting defence officials, the Kaveri is undergoing trials in Russia and there is around 25 hours of testing left to be done on it there. The slots have to be given by the authorities there.

So maybe the rest of the 25 hours will take until September idk???
