I wonder if its possible to select 2 manufacturers just in case one of them flakes or will it result in cost overruns and unrealistic design changes...
We don't have that much forward thinking. If MoD has commonsense, they would shortlist two partners and fund both of them with 2 Consortiums in India. Kick out HAL as it's just waste of money. With GTRE as Project lead, private sector companies like Azad, PTC, Kalyani, Godrej... Make two consortiums out of them and run the program.

I bet they will select single partner who would at the end either blackmail into releasing copious amounts of funds or withhold crucial elements. Then we will take big L. But, who guarantees that even in case of two partner model, both of them wouldn't hesitate to do the same?

We are planning 5-6 billion dollars investment for 10+ years for amca's engine.

For comparison cost of development of rest of amca mk1 and create and test 4-5 prototypes is little bit below 2 billion.

The engine development is more expensive than rest of aircraft combined.

Are you still into we don't have money? We have money for 4B$ Predator Drones, 1B$ Apache, 7B$ Rafale but somehow don't have for engine.

Gonna spend 30+b for mrfa.
We are also buying 80+trjasmk1a plus looking to order 90+more.
We are looking to develop and then buy 120+ tejas mk2 initially.
We are also doing deal of ge 414 for local production.

1. The initial flutter and afterburner only came to light when GTRE put the engine on FTB. On their ground facility they did not able to detect anamoly.
2. Once the problem found, they took around 2-3 years to fix and then moved to FTB again.
3. Due to lack of test facilities we are wasting lot of time.
4. Eg. Compressor testing facility is in Germany. FTB in Russia.
5. For FTB we need to book slot and it should be in very well advance. Otherwise year delay is normal.
6. GTRE did not have full fledged Afterburner testing facility. Current one is an 25% scale version.
7. Lack of machinery also a challenge.
8. Raw material processing is slightly improved.


In short. MOD Babus were kanjoos and RM is retard in this things. Thus merry go round going on with Files.

Not good comparison. While Amca development cost is for single jet program , money spent on 110kn engine will be utilised in multiple programs later on AMCA mk1,2,3 and lca mk2 mlu, tedbf mlu , and new gen stealth drones.
