Huh ?
This is the period that thanks to PRECISELY these trade ports, India bled Roman Empire - the original pignats- dry and lead to its collapse.
Read Pliny the Elder. He whines and whines and whines so much that its not even funny, saying that just about the only thing Rome exports to India is some olive oil, some ( little, not lot) wine and some stinky fish sauce, while importing industrial scale of spices, cotton, finished clothing, dyes and steel from India, to the tune of running a yearly deficit of 100 million sistercii.
To give you an idea of that amount, Roman empire at the peak of its glory in 2nd century CE ( Trajan period for eg) had a budget of around 1.5 billion sistersii, with about 600-700 million sistercii being the entire budget of the Roman military at its absolute peak years, fielding a combined force of over 400,000.
ie, to put it very simply, the trade deficit with India ALONE cost Rome an additional 50-75,000 active duty troops.
This is one of the most glorious periods of Indian history, with stunning wealth arriving from pignat lands due to their lands themselves being poor in luxuries, produce and finished goods.
Romans were good at war and architecture, but were pretty much ooga booga people at finer things in life like luxuries. Which they imported.
And we got shit tons of gold thanks to that.
