If they want to buy a specific platform, and make a designer tender/ASQR for it, why not buy directly instead of doing years of trial, testing and multi-vendor tender drama?

Yes they did. We had the whole MMRCA saga during their tenure too. Also Augusta westland scam, which in turn had a domino effect on the whole procurement process. Because of that scam, process became more complex to eliminate corruption (which obviously didn't stop the corruption). Just look at DPP 2006 & 2008. Even Naval projects were delayed like INS Vikramaditya and Scorpene class submarines.

Also our forces and MoD believes in the motto of "Sarkare ayengi jayengi par desert, mountain,moon, mars, saturn, Andromeda test ityadi hote rehna chaahiye, asqr, RFP bante aur modify hote rehne chahiye".

Wasn't this also the result of a very on the nose designer tender?

Like the requirement of those 3 engines on the heli for muh redundansees n sheeit
When there are only like 3 helicopters with that config, 2 of which are made by AW

Turns out Govt wanted even WDB would be folded into MDL back in the day but the above guy, Parmanandan( a civilian btw, not Navy officer, core of the WDB when it started ) convinced Navy brass not to.

And the reason given by the guy is 100% bang on target and this discussion seems to be from the 70s

OTOH Airforce guys let their equivalent be folded into HAL/ADA

Two different but machine-heavy wings of the armed forces, two very different visions to build capability and two different results.

Our country is richer now, private industry is capable enough and DRDO type orgs have improved somewhat, there is still time for them to change and go all in for domestic fighter aircraft development to build our numbers

do u really think these transport aircraft or even bigger aircraft like p8i posiden can carry 3500 kg weight nd 8 meter length brahmos A?? for them to carry 1500 kg weight nd 6 meter length tomahawk or brahmos ng missiles is a task. even p8i posiden cant carry tomahawk missile yet. although america hv plan to carry long range cruise missile from p8i.

Will Galium Nitride radar fitted in the Su-30mki upgraded version will detect the China made stealth fighter? If that is true then rush to buy F-35 or SU-57 will be off. A missile can be built to shoot the Chinese made stealth fighter.

That much upgrade is more than enough to keep the Pakistanis in check.

That does not make sense. The stealth does not allow to see the other first. Fundamentally stealth is invisibility. If that invisibility is broken then who fires first is the key.

@Interested is correct, assuming an upgraded SU-30 MKI radar can detect 1m^2 RCS at 200 km then J-35 with assumed RCS of 0.05m^2 RCS will be detected at ~95 km by the same radar (~113km for 0.1m^2). There is a mathematical formula for this, you can use ChatGPT.

With just passive EW & RWR, J-35 will know where SU-30MKI is and can shoot first with PL-15s.

Rafale's OSF-IT might actually have a higher range (>125km) to detect J-35s if it knows where to look at that is where VHF radars come into picture.

Another challenge with stealth aircraft is maintaining track/lock at distance when guiding BVRs. Tactics for defending against <= 4.5 gen fighters can not be applied 1-to-1 for stealth fighters.

IMHO enhancing existing fleet with longer range BVRs like Sky Sting & R-37M along with Astra 2/3 will be one of the biggest force multiplier and increase in firepower.
