Micromax is gone case now. They don't want to continue in mobile market. Rumours of shifting into EV market.

Lava agni 2 (not the icbm :crusin2:
Unexpected that lava made such a phone used it its damn good too and i can saythat it can compete with other chinese mobiles out there in the same category
Lava has been always much ahead of Micromax. In the OG days of the Smartphones in India both Lava and MMX were very popular.

Difference was that MMX was solely dependent on Imports of fully built units with OS preinstalled from Chinese OEM where as Lava was designing their phones themselves and even they were building a fork from Android back in those days. Lava came our with their OS under Xolo brand back in 2014.

Right also, Lava is doing actually quite good in 10-20K range with their Agni series. They are investing around ~500 cr on just R&D in India. Whereas MMX was only doing import and resale here.

Remember the days when showing off a cool geometry box or a bright, multi-compartment campus box was the ultimate classroom flex? Those were the treasures of our childhood! Whether it was a steel geometry box filled with all sorts of instruments, most of which we never used, or those fancy campus boxes with buttons we loved to open and show off, no Desi childhood was complete without them. So, when news broke about the death of Camlin founder Subhash Dandekar, the internet couldn’t help but take a trip down memory lane.

“Just read the sad news that Subhash Dandekar, the creator of the Camlin box passed away yesterday in Mumbai. It’s uncanny that he breathed his last just when so many of us were feeling nostalgic about his creation, which is an inseparable part of our childhood. May his soul rest in peace," wrote one user on X. Another shared, “I can’t think of anyone from the 80s & 90s who didn’t use the legendary Camlin ‘compass box’."

I did not know him personally, but I was once the owner of a Camlin geometry box….. my proudest possession in class 7. One wonders if he knew how many lives he touched. Om Shanti!

“Om shanti, Subhash Dandekar! Thank you sir, for contributing so much to our childhood memories and nostalgia with Camlin" said the third while the fourth added, “I did not know him personally, but I was once the owner of a Camlin geometry box….. my proudest possession in class 7. One wonders if he knew how many lives he touched. Om Shanti!"

Meanwhile, Subhash Dandekar, the 86-year-old founder of the stationery brand Camlin, passed away on Monday, according to family sources and PTI reports.

After selling the popular artwork brand to Japan’s Kokuyo, Dandekar was reportedly serving as the chairman emeritus of Kokuyo Camlin until his passing.

For the background, Camlin was founded in 1931 by D.P. Dandekar and his brother G.P. Dandekar, starting with “Horse Brand" ink powders and tablets. Soon, they began producing “Camel Ink" for fountain pens. The company became a private entity in 1946 and went public in 1998.

In 2011, Japanese stationery giant Kokuyo Co. Ltd acquired a 50.74% stake in Camlin for Rs. 366 crore. Dilip Dandekar continued as chairman and managing director. The deal aimed to introduce Kokuyo products, especially paper and office stationery, to the Indian market while boosting Camlin’s exports. At the time of the deal, Camlin offered over 2,000 products, including pencils, pastels, inks, and markers, retaining the Camlin (writing implements and office supplies) and Camel (art materials) brands.

Indian mobile market is fiercely competitive, but we thrive on challenges, Sunil Raina, MD, Lava International told exclusively to The Hindu.

“Our integrated R&D and manufacturing prowess give us unmatched autonomy to innovate for the nation’s needs. We take pride in our self-reliance through in-house design, components sourced locally, and manufacturing facilities with an annual capacity of 42 million handsets. This self-sufficiency insulates us from external vulnerabilities,” said Raina.

Lava, which started its journey in 2009 through feature phones, completed 15 years in March. It is only surviving indigenous mobile brand amidst Korean and Chinese players in India. The brand claims to have a retail network of over 1.2 lakh counters, over 850 distributors, and 700 plus service centers pan-India.

The homegrown company is also the first smartphone maker in India to launch a 5G smartphone (Agni series) in the sub-11k segment.

In the last two fiscal years, the company said it witnessed “2x revenue growth” and that “Lava’s feature phones owned a 24% market share in April to December 2023 period.”

I am eagerly waiting for Agni 3 but look like they are busy with blaze series.

Must improve software update to 3 years atleast.

The Direct competition is with Motorola, a China owned USA brand, nothing USA is in it though, that latest G85 is superior as it brings stereo and moto ui too is good in comparison to that of Lava.

They can edge over Motorola if they make their camera best.
People will choose Lava despite no stereo and basic ui.
