1.5 Tesla is most commonly used MRI machines in hospitals world over. 3.5Tesla are more used in Brain, bone scans. Actually this linked in post helps better explanation of the difference between the two. Both have uses. I think it was excellent decision to first aim for 1.5 Tesla.
