I never understood the reason for the grudge maharastrians have for gujjus.I don't use reddit anymore but the while i used to nearly all of the posts on the Mumbai subreddit used to be full of anti gujju comments.
Just read the headline lmao. just think of being retarded enough to make fun of failures of another state of your country.

That's coz Modi's using his clout to resettle the diamond industry in Gujarat when there's no need for it . From the looks of it , this particular plan has come a cropper but he's used the weight of the PMO to swing quite a few projects away from Maharashtra to Gujarat.

The GIFT city is one good example though a proto version of it was supposed to kick off in the BKC commercial district of Mumbai. Eventually the GIFT city turned out to be something else which Modi hopes will be a desi alternative to Singapore as a global financial cum arbitration centre.

I don't think it is bad per se.People on twitter cry too much. We must not be reliant on one state to do the heavy lifting for Indian economy.

Discussion is along similar lines on another cricket forum too. Team won twice in Australia previously and it didn't mean anything but defeat here means everything that represents Indianness must be subjected to intense value judgements because nation as a whole is underachieving despite being 150 cr etc. Hinduism and idol worship is why Kohli and Rohit Sharma are worshipped like rajni and srk etc etc. Which is a civilizational character flaw. I don't even know where to begin. And then some people say Indians are incapable of taking criticism lol.

not sure if there are theories already in place, but i put them in a bucket called "politics of terminology".

for now i will phrase my observations this way, will improve on this later.

there are phrases, terms, words and ideas that are used or encouraged to be used, in one direction and not in another, in one context and not in another. sometimes words are strategically even overused in a time period, to crowd out alternative points of view. most times, sometimes strategically erased from usage or not using them in the right context and meaning, i think public loses out on a lot of clarity of thought .

ofcourse all this is relative, depending on where you stand and power backing it.

result is that as you said , conclusions are encouraged in one direction have such a low bar, but in another direction have such a high dam to cross.

a few examples from history: martial races, syncretic culture, pagans, heathens, swastika(nazi).
in contemporary discourse : liberalism, secularism, multi-culturalism.

a decade ago devdutt patnaik used to be in such vogue, the guy used to change the meaning of sanskrit words so blatantly.

I have been going through school textbooks on social studies from across India. One of the things that is consistent is the insistence on povertarian imagery - it is almost as if modernity and prosperity of any kind must not be shown. Everything must look like a Mrinal Sen movie. These are textbooks in use today (and written in the last few years). In fact, since adequately poverty-stricken images cannot be shot today, textbook writers have gone out of their way to source black and white images from the 1960s. See below. It is meant to show someone keeping a house clean as a non-economic activity...... no quarrel with the idea, but why always this particular image?? All farming must be with bullocks, all industry must be handloom, all markets must be grain mandi. Some of this exists and should be shown, but why not cars, computers, smart phones, banks, mass manufacturing, highways...... these too exist.

This then promopts the question -
What was the Sangh & BJP doing all this while.

Ans - woh gaan marwa rahe the. Ab jaa kar jage.

Greenfield cities and business districts take time to mature. GIFT won't 'outcompete' Mumbai. A 2nd GIFT/BKC equivalent anyway being built in Navi Mumbai.

Who said anything about GIFT outcompeting Mumbai ? The issue was about Gujarat setting up a separate diamond bourse in Surat wooing traders from Mumbai which the last GoM countered by initiating construction of a larger diamond bourse in Navi Mumbai or at any rate a larger one than the current one at BKC .

Moreover the idea of a financial district centred in BKC Mumbai was an old one which was hijacked by Modi to be located outside Ahmedabad. The idea of 2 parallel financial centres operating with some functions here & others there seemed ridiculous.

Eventually as GIFT city crystallised it became clear Modi's vision was much more than a financial district. He was actually setting up a city to rival Singapore as a regional financial centre . That's not possible to accomplish in Mumbai given space constraints.

No clue about a second GIFT city or another Navi Mumbai coming up but a satellite city to NM & therefore Mumbai is coming up adjacent to NM . If the time taken to settle NM is any indication it'd take a good 4-5 decades for it to be a fully functional city as opposed to the 2 decades being projected by Fadnavis.

Be that as it may , it's definitely needed & welcome. We need a few more clusters distributed across the country like the Tokyo - Osaka cluster. Right now the only one taking shape with all amenities like mass transportation & other infrastructure being built is in the NCR.

We need something in the South as well . I'm fact I'd argue for such clusters in Ahmedabad too on the lines of the Tokyo - Osaka cluster viz the Ahmedabad Baroda cluster . Bangalore Mysore is another candidate. We can explore one in Hyderabad & Chennai too .

Ditto Pune & perhaps Nagpur. In fact the Mumbai Pune Nashik cluster has the potential to become one of the biggest if not in Asia then the whole world perhaps even exceeding ones in Chinas. For the time being the one in the East can be put on the back burner not that there's any likelihood of one coming up there anytime soon .
