With GoI playing right into this strategy because the opposition is promising the moon, the Farm Laws are now a pipe dream.

End result - We are stuck with a huge part of our labor force stuck in endless inefficiency destroying our demographic dividend.

GoI needs to come up with an innovative way to re introduce the farm laws, if needed do it one by one, or through a JPC, or outright buying out the trouble makers if needed.

This was bound to happen, prople keep farm land as investment not as means of livelihoods.

A guy living in Bangalore could have 10 acres back home that he does not farm in or has given it up to bataiya system which has substandard produce.

In my grandparents village, the only people who are still doing Agriculture are the bottom 10% who have no other options i.e the parents whose kids can't even get an Arts degree etc

Guy was saying humara nuksan ho gaya ab to khudkhushi ki nobat aa gayi he. Sarkar humare liye kuch nahi karti, hune sahi dam bhi nahi mila.

Land is financial security for most farmers as that can be loaned, leased and sold like when they need money to marry their daughter to Sarkari damad.
At the very least Sarkar should remove land ceiling laws. Those who have the ability to buy can't buy due to this ceiling limit. Broadly speaking sarkar controls large scale farms by forcing large farms to obtain clearance for leasing farmer land.

let me add a factor that is not discussed much.

for wheat, india is second highest producer in the world. without creating manufacturing/services capacity to absorb those who will become "jobless" if yields increase, may not be such a good idea to increase the yields dramatically as much as science allows.

India also has the highest cultivable land in the world.

once an agricultural land becomes non-agricultural/commercial, there is no going back.

demand supply equation should be kept in mind.

should not be a surprise that make in India and farm laws discussions happened in the same time period.

ultimately we might get there, but there is a lot of preparatory work in other areas that needs to be done first.

Yup, Subsistence agriculture(2-3 acres) tends to be a low capital operation. And low capital investment means low productivity gains and low yields.

Also doesnt help that Average annadatha is a low IQ illiterate dehati who either doesn't understand or cannot keep abreast with better farming techniques.

The ideal solution would be to pool the land and do contract farming which will give economies of scale.

But something like that is too radical for this socialist country and as you said, that would probably tear the country apart.
