Earlier Modi used to say freebies will ruin the economy. I understand it was the opposition who started it and won few elections off it. It is high time Modi and government reaches out to opposition to see if this can be controlled and election reforms can be done which stops such things.

Modi gormint has an issue with unbudgeted freebies, not freebies as a whole. freebies that are not shown in the budget, but show up in state gormint account books and debt numbers.

It's not a bheemta freebie either.

But it's definitely not a loan.

The scheme is total amount of 21 billion, how is this even possible

Checkmate India: U.S. and China’s Reluctance on India’s Rise

India is striving to rise amid resistance from two global giants—China and the U.S. Both are wary of India’s emergence as a major manufacturing hub. The U.S. has reportedly pressured Apple to bring its production back home rather than shift it to India. Meanwhile, China wants to retain its dominance over Apple’s supply chain, hence want to keep Apple manufacturing in China.

Although India is positioning itself as a viable alternative to China, U.S. tariffs under President Trump have distorted global trade and made high-end manufacturing relocation difficult. At the same time, many companies still find it hard to exit China despite mounting trade barriers.

India is navigating this complex environment of tariffs, export controls, and licensing challenges. However, one silver lining for India is that China’s massive $1.2 trillion annual trade surplus, which has to be curtailed. With the U.S. running a $1 trillion trade deficit—half of it with China—tariffs are being imposed to correct this imbalance. Other nations with large deficits are also seeking alternatives to Chinese imports. That’s where India fits in.

India offers low labor costs, improving infrastructure, a business-friendly government, and strong incentives—making it an appealing destination for global manufacturing.

Decades ago, the U.S. helped China rise to counter the Soviet Union. Now, as China challenges U.S. dominance, India is being quietly supported as a counterbalance. Ironically, both the U.S. and China now share a common reluctance toward India becoming the next global powerhouse.

Despite this, India is pressing ahead, securing trade deals. The UK deal is signed; a U.S. agreement is expected soon, with more to follow. These deals, if fair and reciprocal, could be India’s path to global economic prominence.
