Bro will Vadhavan get built if Penguin Sena wins?

No.
They stopped the bullet train project's land acquisition the last time they were in power.
Ya'll Nibbiars Unlike MAHSR, port is built on land Reclamation and they can't stop it now, as the process has been done under the S.C supervision. And NDA was Voted to power in Palghar District now, mean clearly shows that folks are with the Port.

India needs to slap high tariffs on consumer products coming from China. Only things that shouldn’t have tariffs are machinery that help create Indian industry.

There is a certain FTA called ITA-1 signed by India in the 90s
According to that imports of computer hardware are duty/tariff-free.

Computer hardware includes the parts, dabba PC, AIO PC, Laptops, Servers, Printers etc

As you know these come from China.

It has been a source of much heartburn and "what to do?" for the incumbent govt since they don't have the stick of the tariffs available to make the carrot of PLI very attractive for the big-brand oxen to setup assembly shops here.

As compared to smartphones, TVs, various white goods appliances( fridge, washing machine ), cars etc

I’m talking about heavy machinery that makes machines to manufacture goods. Not computers. I’m talking about products that can make chips or pcb boards etc. and then go upward until we achieve the ability to make anything we need including heavy or specialized machinery that makes machines that make goods.

I was replying to the bolded, computers are consumer goods and ofc it's a large industry segment here, serviced by direct imports from China.

We have other such self-goal FTA signed with Vietnam and Thailand by congi govt in the past but the govt has managed to tip-toe over those, but not this ITA-1 which is tariff-proof

I don't think there are much duties and all in the way in importing machinery from China, even if there are they are still cheap enough to be first choice for many factories

Ya'll The M/s Shree Refrigerators, Karad now produces All Air Conditioning Plants for Scarface veseels and Submarine which were previously imported directly from the French Manufacturers. They are also providing it to now commercial veseels.

Current (but not exhaustive) pipeline of Battery cell manufacturing projects in India:

> Ola Cell: 20 GWh (PLI)
> Reliance: 10 + 40 GWh (PLI)
> Agratas (Tata): 20 + 20 GWh
> Exide: 12 GWh
> Amara Raja: 16 (+5?) GWh
> JSW Battery Storage Systems: 50 GWh

With GoI planning further auctioning of 20 GWh capacity in PLI.

Another less talked accomplishment of Indian govt.

Do they actually produce the cells here or is it just an assembly shop?
Nah, actually produced here. But Polysilicon raw material needs to be imported.

And the list isn't even complete. Wonder how tf did the production explode so much? We were at less than 8GW just 3 years back. Even Jammu & Kashmir has a big industrial plant with 3.2 GW Module, 2.8 GW Ingot, Wafer and Cell capacity under construction.

Afaik rest of "sooth asia" is effectively at negligible.

But we'll soon produce a lot of Polysilicon as well, thanks to dhandos.

Polysilicon will still be imported from China, but the remaining stuff(ingots, wafers, cells) will be produced here depending on the company. Afaik Ambani's giga factory starts at the ingot level with plans to produce Polysilicon in the future.

bros my question was about lithium ion and other batteries, that was the post i quoted not the Solar PV one.
It will be great if we are producing the batteries from the cell level onwards, otherwise yet another dependency on Cheeniz
