Indian Navy Developments & Discussions

Better looking does not mean they are better.

Even the Ruskies make better VLS than we do.

It's probably the same VLS we use, because it's made by BrahMos Aerospace, the ones for Barak8 is made by Jooz.
The Shtil-1 VLS is ofc theirs

Truth is I don't think we have our own deshi VLS in deployment on our warships right now, maybe VL-SRSAM will be the first.

There is NASM-MR also in development so they'd have to make a VLS compatible with that, Nirbhay LACM and Brahmos

China seems to be launching the Type 076 LHA today.

Calling this thing a Landing Helicopter Dock can be extremely deceiving. That thing's a proper Vikramaditya sized carrier with EMALS catapult.

Here's Office of Naval Intelligence's estimation of its size, compared to other two carriers

Remember my last few posts about CIWS and how we struggle to properly utilize them? Well it seems we can learn a thing or two from this new Type 076. This is its stern

• two HHQ-10 (pretty much the Rolling Airframe Missile) and one Type-730 covering almost 270° from just the rear. The flanks would definitely have their own CIWS.
• also interesting is the fact that they seem to have replaced the old radar on Type-730 with an AESA Fire Control radar...definitely an upgrade

3 HHQ-10
3 Type-1130 CIWS

She is more armed than the Type-01 and Type-02.

That is why I called LHA not LHD. She can launch both fixed wing aircrafts and the LCAC as well.

Do they have a drone with air-to-air capability? I've seen renders of this ship with flying wing drones( bombers ) and HALE/MALE drones with folding wings

The turks have the Kizilelma dunno about other countries.

I meant the Shtil VLS. Just compare these to the monstrosity we made for the VL-SRSAM.

My brother in Vishwakarma, if the chatter about EMALS turns out to be true then they'd be launching J-35s from it.
Why bother with an air-to-air drone when you've a full fledged 5th gen fighter!?

Is there a good pic anywhere, I know it's on INS Rana but i can get only overhead pics from far away aside from CAD models

Anyway i'd assume they' refine it, they should rather

(8 cell VL-SRSAM compared to a 12 cell Shtil-1; the cells are just for rough idea but the outer dimensions are accurate)

Worth noting is the fact that a single VL-SRSAM is approximately 200kg whereas for Shtil-1 it's 600kg

I don’t think it fits well within the maritime doctrine of the PLAN.

The Chinese will soon start the construction of their 4th aircraft carrier. These carries unlike the US navy will feature a heavy complement of A2A fighters and a small mix of A2G strike aircraft unlike the Americans who have a balanced mix of both.

This is where the type -76 and teachings of russo-ukrainian war come into play. It is becoming increasingly clear that SEAD missions are next to impossible without stealth aircraft as russian aircraft have simply refused to enter Ukrainian airspace and vise versa as both sides lack capable 5th Gen aircraft to conduct SEAD missions without heavy losses.

China has now built type-76 which with EMALS will carry their new line of stealth strike drones in numbers under the cover of aircraft’s from Chinese carrier wings thus evading hostile jets reducing pilot loss and increasing mission efficiency all at the same time.

Drones shot down can be produced way faster than your average combat jet while also having added stealth and numbers as a solid advantage.
