Indian Navy Developments & Discussions

IMO 40-50 is too generous, I think thats the range for very low speed subsonic drone type targets when missile is lobbed high and then glides down. Cause Astra MK1 range at low altitudes was given as 12km against fighters, against incoming ffast missiles (high subsonic) that could be read as 20-25km ish.
Was talking about "max" range of 40-50km.

And the 12km range sounds too low.
Even near sea level and against a running away(egress) fighter jet(supersonic with afterburner) it should be 25-30km distance between the carrier and target for the missile to have good kill probability.

And if the target(fighter, missile) is coming towards(ingress) the missile carrier, then the effective range increases a lot.
Even near sea level 40-50km can be expected.

Now you can also launch the missile way past it's effective range, once you get a firing solution, just to force the opponent fighter jet into defending.

So a max range of 50km and given antiship missiles will be coming towards you, the effective max range of 30-50km is realistic.
Remember once this vlsrsam is launched to take down the antiship missiles, and when it actually takes down the antiship missile, the anti ship missile would have moved closer by few kilometers to even 20+km If it's a mach2+ anti ship missile.

So if it's launched When the anti ship missile is at lets say 60km from the ship it can intercept it at 35-55km away from ship, depending on the speed of anti ship missile.

Unlike fighter jets that can run away from you, anti ship missile will come towards you.

I know this, thats why I moved the range figure up (made for fighter that can actively defend) to 20-25km.

Although IDK where I remember it being 12 km, cant find the source now.

There is a source for range being 20 km against fighters in head on scenario (https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/Astra-missile-test-fired-successfully/article12457627.ece)

Im guessing the range for high subsonic targets would not be much different. Only case is if a much lower velocity, high lob trajectory is picked, for very slow targets.

20km only makes sense if the fighter jet running away from you.

I think the unclassified ranges -

50k feet alt - 110 km
20k feet alt - 44 km
0ft alt - 21km

Which sounds reasonable tbf.
Just searched about the ground varient of aim 120c( max range 105km) called National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS):- max listed range 30km.

So your estimate does seem closer.

Licensed Roofing Experts in Wilmington NC

Residing close to the seaside offers many advantages: ocean breezes, stunning scenery and the unmistakable sound of surf pounding against the shore are some of them. However, being there also brings special difficulties: gusts, rain and the persistent salty air can harm roofing causing seepage, moisture infiltration and potentially mold growth below shingles, thus necessitating employing a expert roof contractor in Wilmington North Carol to resolve these issues efficiently. That is why possessing access to reliable roofing contractors experts in Wilmington NC is vital!

Roofers licensed with the State of NC can assess potential issues and take preventative actions to keep rooftops in good shape - this could cut expenses in corrections while ensuring a safer residential area or workspace for residents or employees.

These businesses concentrate in residential and business roof work such as metallic roofing installs, spray-on foam roofing, reflective roof projects, shingle repair solutions, full replacements of both home and commercial roofs and maintenance tasks. Additionally, they can manage setups for HOAs to meet requirements.

Roof contractors certified in Wilmington City must carry coverage and bond insurance when doing roof work at residences and companies, to protect property owners from likely injuries that may occur during a project and ensure their rooftop is fixed or replaced by skilled professionals. Moreover, it helps the resident confirm whether their selected certified roofer has the knowledge and skill to provide top-notch solutions.

Nub question
Is the Rafale M capable of Stobar launch
One of the most capable jets for stobar carrier in terms of range and payload relative to its size
It has a very good lift to weight to compactness ratio.(It was primarily designed for naval use then airforce varient was made)
You can expect it to carry approx twice the max payload of mig29ks and still giving more range than mig29ks(which carries half the payload) from the same longer runway of vikrant.
With lighter air to air payload, it should be able to takeoff with almost full fuel.
All this due to mainly its design, and high use of composites(weight saving) while having weaker engines than mig29ks.

Due to its design Rafale also has higher land based max payload than eurofighter typhoon which also has more powerful engines than rafale and also high in composites.

There's a reason TEDBF looked so much like rafale.

You are fully right.
One of the key of Rafale success is the close coupled canards with delta config. The lift created is then impressive.

Refit on the cards, but INS Kalvari unlikely to get indigenous propulsion tech

Indian private firm Larsen & Toubro and the DRDO in June, 2023 signed a contract for the realisation of two AIP system modules for the Kalvari, the Indian name for the Scorpene.

These modules constitute the core of the fuel cell-based AIP system, indigenously developed by the Naval Materials Research Laboratory with L&T as the prime industry partner.
The sources said once the construction was completed, there would be a series of tests before the system was cleared for installation. The installation will require the submarine to be cut and an additional compartment fitted which would make the process longer.

INS Kalvari, according to the sources, will go in for its normal refit in the second half of this year. The work schedule being drawn does not include AIP as of now because of the delay.

According to the original plan, the 5th and 6th Scorpene class submarines were to be fitted with the AIP system while the earlier ones would have got them during the normal refits. But the delay in developing the AIP meant the 5th and 6th boats were also commissioned without the AIP.

The AIP could get installed on the second of the Kalvari class as and when it comes in for its normal refit, the sources said.
