Not sure about this but would make sense for something like the NGMV

View attachment 42212

The French have something similar called the SIMBAD launcher for their Mistral MANPADs

If this is true then finally the NGMV will enter service with some kind of SAM system unlike a couple of spare Igla-S.

How feasible would it be to fit the RATEP Komar air-defence turret mount onto the Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) given that it's likely armament is just :
  • 4 x BrahMos ER
  • 1 x 76 mm upgraded SRGM
  • 2 x 30 mm AK 630 CIWS
  • 2 x OFT 12.7 mm M2 Stabilized Remote Controlled Gun
  • 16 x VL-SRSAM (FFBNW)
It looks like the mid section of the old design (2500 T) has been scrapped out and the new design (~1500 T) seems much smaller.

This removed the midship section for the earlier 8 x BrahMos ER and moved it to the fore using inclined launchers and displaced the VL-SRSAM.

This will at least give the ship some decent CIWS capabilities since each turret has electro-optical systems for independent targeting given that the alternative is manually aimed Igla-S missiles using Eyeball Mk 1.

This defence bro gives great overview of current and near future ships( Including Nilgiris and all ) and their missile counts, in addition the pics are also good

There is also an overview of the PN this way

Their latest Cheeni-maal frigates have only 4x supersonic Ashm per ship :pmegusta:
Tughril is their only ship class which carries these supersonic ashms from Cheeni.

Huh... even the Pakistanis know that these are only for show, and once the bullets start flying, they won't last more than an hour into the fight.

Another list, comprising of no. of surface to air missiles( short, medium, long) and no. Of ASHM( supersonic, subsonic, all types) of "surface ships" of various navies.
Again, this focuses purely on numbers, so don't dig too deep, just for general gist.

Air defense missiles.

1 United States ~6,500–7,000 (SM-2/3/6, ESSM)

2 China ~3,000–3,500 (HHQ-9, HHQ-16, etc.)

3 Japan ~2,500–3,000 (SM-2/3/6)

4 South Korea ~1,200–1,400 (SM-2, KM-SAM, etc.)

5 India ~1,140 (Barak-8, MR-SAM, VL-SRSAM)

6 France ~600–700 (Aster-15/30, VL-MICA)

7 UK ~500–600 (Aster-15/30, Sea Ceptor)

8 Australia ~400–500 (SM-2/6, ESSM)

9 Germany ~400 (SM-2, ESSM)

10 Italy ~350–400 (Aster-15/30)

ASHM numbers.

1 China ~1,000–1,200 (YJ-18, YJ-12, YJ-83)

2 United States ~600–800 (Harpoon, NSM, LRASM, some Tomahawk in AShM config, USN mainly rely on fighter jet launched ASHM missiles)

3 Russia ~500–600 (P-800 Oniks, Kalibr, Kh-35)

4 India ~376 (BrahMos, Kh-35, Klub)

5 Japan ~300–400 (Type 90, Type 12, Harpoon)

6 South Korea ~300–350 (Haeseong)

7 France ~200 (Exocet MM40)

8 UK ~160 (Harpoon, NSM replacing)

9 Australia ~150 (Harpoon, NSM)

10 Brazil or Turkey ~100 (Atmaca, MANSUP, Harpoon)

This, list also gives unique conclusions if you know how to look.

For example.
Like in AAW list, you won't find russian navy in top 10, but you will in ashm list at no. 3, but their actual ashm count Is lot higher because submarines aren't included in this list, and russian navy Is a submarine heavy forces.

If i was a paksitani planner i would have stopped giving money to the pak navy a long time ago. Their best bet against IN is asymmetric warfare using missile boats and sea drones. They can build up all the surface fleet and induct as many subs they want but geography is bitch to them and all the surface ships will go down within the first strike and without aircover INs anti sub planes will just take their time hunting PN subs for the rest of the war.But alas pakis cant let go of their ego.

Uniformed & whiskey swilling class Yes,

Salwar wearing and grass eating class No.

Just like Eran accepted the defeat of their conventional capabilities like an Air Force would forever be in the gutter because of sanctions and left it at that, and missile-maxxxed and jihadi-maxxxed under the assumption that because of those Israel would never threaten them.

Similarly the PA Jernails have assumed that Karachi/Ormara/Gwadar won't be attacked because they will do sem2sem at Mumbai and the Jamnagar refineries, and the kaffir baniya is afraid, so therefore there is no need to be serious in the matter of Naval defence, Submarines are only for their domestic audience to kang over just like J-35 stealth jets.

Israel shattered Iran's assumptions, we have shattered their earlier assumption about our retaliatory strikes not hitting Punjab, but the one over Karachi and coast still remains.

Inshallah woh bhi hoga.

Admirols must just buy the Type 214 with minor length increases instead of going for the custom design with angular hull wagera.

Assuming all is well with DRDO AIP with testing, trial certification we won't see proper rollout till 2030s, and even if done serially, one Kalvari sub will be in refit for whatever amount of months.

IAF and IN apparently both celebrated Diwali upon Karachi in 1971

I was reading those GM Hiranandani books and assumed it was only Navy who did the blasting, especially of those fuel tanks.

Inshallah may Karachi burn in the future again.

According to the sources, Request for Proposal of the Rs 70,000 crore project 17 B, for construction of seven Next Generation Frigates, along with the project to construct two Multi Purpose Vessels” is likely to be out soon.

“Project 75-India (I) and Project 75 (add-ons) are under advanced stages of the Cost Negotiation being done by the Committee (Cost Negotiation Committee-CNC),” added the source.

Project 75-I is for the construction of six modern submarines, with an estimated cost of Rs 70,000 crore. Project 75 (add-ons) is for the construction of three Scorpene-class submarines, costing approximately Rs 36,000 crore.

Another project, with a construction cost of approximately Rs 36,000 crore, belonging to the eight Next Generation Corvettes (NGC), is in the pipeline. These will result in a cumulative cost of over Rs 240,000 crore once approved.

Yes it's the best authoritative resource to learn about IN ship designing and building journey plus details about '65 and especially the '71 war.

The late GM Hiranandani has an actual "journalistic" style, everything in the books is well sourced with attributions to other officers, books or media articles

I couldn't get a hold of the books till i found out the new navy website :- indiannavy.gov.in.

All PDFs of the books are available there in case anyone else wants to read

INS Mahendragiri last ship of the Nilgiri class
Per MDL it will be delivered by Feb 2026

As y'all can see the whole ship is more or less done, they just have to fit in the radar and weapons.

Keel was laid in 2022, if they actually deliver by 2026 it will be a great milestone.

ordering only 7 units of ngf and then expecting low costs and high speed production is utter idioticity from bureaucrats. min 9-12 units should be procured so that production line goes on till 2032-33 then we can induct an even next gen frigate.
but they should increase the amount now, giving an additional order then would be baseless, price would increase, delayed delivery due to restart of production line of the electronics of that warship.

ias babu if you reading this pls, add more warships, in can chase plan in quantity, pls make it happen.
