Indian Navy Developments & Discussions (41 Viewers)

ordering only 7 units of ngf and then expecting low costs and high speed production is utter idioticity from bureaucrats. min 9-12 units should be procured so that production line goes on till 2032-33 then we can induct an even next gen frigate.
but they should increase the amount now, giving an additional order then would be baseless, price would increase, delayed delivery due to restart of production line of the electronics of that warship.

ias babu if you reading this pls, add more warships, in can chase plan in quantity, pls make it happen.

Baboons don't decide defense budget.

Navy has to decide what goes where, how much ships to buy, what armament is needed etc.

Admirols given a set budget and based on that they have to decide, many cases things get put on back-burner like MCMV or LHD.

Then there are cases where they have to choose, like they chose 2x P77 SSNs instead of another Vikrant class carrier.

Baboons however must not sit on files, just give CCS approval quickly so that the shipyards have continuous orders instead of idling for 1-2 years.

In terms of defence procurement, Admirals run the most efficient setup as compared to their Imported peers, making stuff here fully or partially makes it cheap, and with design control they can get exactly the platforms they want.

But still chindi budgets are a problem, doesn't matter how efficient it is, Admirals have to cut down somewhere, whether it is missiles per ship or numbers of ships

remember the lanza radar on kolkata class? ancient radar from europe on modern destroyer, chindi cost cutting from god knows who.

naval budget should be increased, they get so low

Lanza is the new one from Spain for Nilgiris and intended for P15A/B

What Kolkata has is the LW-08 from Signaal Nederlands
BEL has milked it to max by upgrading it 2-3 times

INS Mahendragiri last ship of the Nilgiri class
Per MDL it will be delivered by Feb 2026

As y'all can see the whole ship is more or less done, they just have to fit in the radar and weapons.

Keel was laid in 2022, if they actually deliver by 2026 it will be a great milestone.

Nah , not before 2027. Still a lot of work to do and then off course trials. But still 5 years is a very good time frame for Indian standards. Hopefully Project 17B would start with a 5 year timeframe from the first ship itself!

Fuel Cell based Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System Crosses Important Milestone of User Specific Tests
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved an important milestone in the development of Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System by proving the land-based prototype on 8 March 2021. The plant was operated in endurance mode and max power mode as per the user requirements. The system is being developed by Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) of DRDO.

AIP has a force multiplier effect on lethality of a diesel electric submarine as it enhances the submerged endurance of the boat, several folds. Fuel cell-based AIP has merits in performance compared to other technologies.

While there are different types of AIP systems being pursued internationally, fuel cell-based AIP of NMRL is unique as the hydrogen is generated onboard.

The technology has been successfully developed with the support of industry partners L&T and Thermax. It has now reached the stage of maturity for fitment into target vessels.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, Indian Navy and Industry for the achievement.

Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr G Satheesh Reddy appreciated the efforts of the teams involved in the successful development. He called upon the DRDO fraternity to come up with more such advanced technological achievements by putting extraordinary efforts.

New Scorpene Vs old

One of the primary differences between the new batch and the original six is size. The new submarines will feature nearly double the mission duration, thanks to improvements in design that include larger accommodations, increased food and water storage, and expanded sanitary and oil storage facilities.

Another key upgrade is in armament. The new submarines will be able to carry more than twice the weapon load of their predecessors and are designed to accommodate additional weapons in the future—provided they fit existing weapon tubes.

While neither the older or newer Scorpenes will be fitted with Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) systems just yet with India’s indigenous AIP still under development, the new ones will feature modernised electric propulsion motors.

These upgrades will ensure lower power consumption and quicker maintenance.

The diesel generators on the new submarines will also be sourced from a different company, chosen for its superior after-sales service and industrial support for the Indian Navy.

These generators are expected to reduce fuel consumption by 20 percent and significantly lower vacuum build-up while snorting.

In addition, the new submarines will incorporate a new design that reduces infrared signatures, gas volume, and overall visual profile.

Thanks to their increased size, the upcoming submarines will have greater endurance, range, and mission capability, according to sources.

Meanwhile from HT

The contract negotiation committee is set to begin discussions to finalise the commercial and technical terms for P-75I, and negotiations for the additional Scorpene-class submarines have been completed, said Commodore SB Jamgaonkar (retd), director (submarine and heavy engineering), MDL.
“We are looking forward to executing the two projects. The two deals are likely to be signed before March 31, 2026,” he said.

If any complications come up with this one due to delay then it will be a indictment of MOD and BJP government.

Price negotiations for atleast additional 3 Scorpenes are done.
File is literally being sat over by MoD babooze or Leaderji himself.

CSL should lead the work for LHD project. They have experience in building flight deck for Vikrant, internal space for fighter service. They may be stuck with well deck design, but they get some consultancy from Italy, Spain. Come on they should copy some of the current designs.
