Indian Navy Developments & Discussions

From what I know mig29k, using longer runways on carrier, with full afterburner, with 60% fuel( about 400-500km combat radius with weapons, without refeuling) can take off with approx 2.5 ton payload.
Like it can carry 2kh31a(anti ship), 2 R73(WVR), 2 R27R(BVR) missiles and have some more carrying ability left( possibly filled with more fuel)
What's the sources btw?

If Mig-29K does 2.5tons from sky-jump then Rafales will comfortably do more, canards help in these cases.

Sources:- calculation.
Actually the payload for mig29 came at 2.8tons, I reduced it to 2.5 tons for conservative estimates.

As for rafale M it beats mig 29k by big margin.
Using the longer runway of vikrant, it can takeoff with 4+ tons of payload and with almost full internet fuel(700-900km combat radius). Similar performance for future tedbf.

So it's not just that rafale a more advanced fighter, but range, endurance and payload are greatly superior, even when max combined thrust of rd33 engines of mig29k(176kn) is higher than m88 engines of rafale(148kn).

Patrakars disagreeing over "3 carrier plan junked"

Guess the expectation is that once the 2nd Vikrant class carrier comes online, Vikramaditya will already be close to retirement so they will either decommission it or keep it as training carrier as another memberaan said previously.

Individual patrakars and publications have added their own spin to all this like some Chinese whispers sht for some clicks

Meanwhile we have spent like 3-4 pages of discussion on this topic

Indian journalists have issue with writing , they can make world's most obvious statement sound confusing.
Basically IN will eventually acquire more ICs but they're delaying IAC-3 for SSNs and surface combatants . Coupta sounds straight-up retarded here, IAC-2 was always going to replace vikky there is nothing new about that, most likely navy and gormint will comeback to IAC-3 somewhere around 2030-2035 when IAC-2 would be ready and indigenous SSNs would be series production at least.

Plus IAC-3 is most likely gonna be a nuclear carrier around 75k+ tonnes, alot of tech has to go into development and mastered before keel laying happens. Crazy how incompetent Indian news portals are about defense stuff. I remember when AD-1 was announced, which is a BMD , bunch of these media houses called it "bharat ka iron dome" or some shit, same happened when project kusha was announced . Worse thing is bunch of congressi idiots tried to spread the misinfo that we're buying iron dome from Israel through adani, some of them was some MLA.

PLAN has 2 Aircraft Carriers with oil fired boilers and steam propulsion (Liaoning and Shandong) which I can see will have the same issues as the Vikramaditya in terms of range and reliability.

PLAN switched to conventional diesel electric generators and some form of IEP (Integrated Electric Propulsion) for the third one Fujian but EMALS and some subsystems need further work due to which it is still in sea trials.

I think the Navy wants to make another Vikrant Class (slightly bigger 50K tons?) as IAC-2 and effectively replace the Vikramaditya.

Also, the Navy only has 40 Mig 29k (14 per AC), meaning there isn't enough to equip a third ship.

The Rafale M can help increase numbers (10 Mig 29k and 8 Rafale M per ship) but unless TEDBF arrives, properly equipping a third AC is not going to happen until late 2030s.

The Navy also needs 4-6 SSN to spare atleast 1 SSN and 14+ MFSTAR platforms to spare 4 MFSTAR/Barak 8 (32) warships per CBG.

1-2 SSK (Kalvari Class or P 75I) with AIP to increase range will be required to protect the CBG.

Atleast 1 Talwar Class ASW and 1 Kamorta Class would be attached to each CBG as well.

Add 1 fuel tanker and FSS as well to support the CBG.
