Indian Private Defence Sector

Why not order 200units of stryker and 500 of whap and keep gharwali and baharwali both happy ?
Also what is it about WhAP that unkil wants to kill it ? Its not like a nuke sub or S400 like advance tech is it ?
It's the armoured vehicle industry that they want to kill
Just like marut was killed and it took us so long to establish manufacturing for tejas and in meanwhile how many aircrafts were imported
Once u kill the budding industry it takes decades to re-establish it and that duration is when u import

Its foundation of Industry. The first products tank artiller whap guns shall lay foundation of industry.

Lets wait how it unfolds. Problem is India does not have consistent defence policy. As @ezsasa laments often we dont have defence policy itself. Whats our aim? Defence? Does the Defence of Land include Industrial base , economic progress apart from land?

Our policy keeps on chnaging according to internal political or geopolitical winds.

there is clarity on the aim and definition part, missing piece is strategic doctrine as a pubic document.

as it says in the document itself.
Even though we have no formally articulated National Security Policy and Strategy, it does not imply that they do not exist or are not sufficiently understood .

Last 3-4 mins, listen to the hesitation in his answer. They're forced to take the route Tonbo took to make IA accept domestically manufactured products. i.e, export it to foriegn forces, and then 'prove' to IA that since foreigners are using it it should be good enough for us !

In this video starting at 9:49, the issue of the Indian army hesitating to buy items( like sniper rifles made by SSS, Bangalore) that are exported by Indian companies, is touched on. Also, info that the single largest private sector exporter from India, is a company called Indo-MIM

Few days ago I had shared my experience with 3D printing. Today saw something very similar.

This thing may not matter much for say someone who's making earphones or microwave ovens as there isn't much to tinker with but for defence and aerospace this thing becomes substantial. The electronics in a missile may need to go through tens of different iterations before it's finalized. And being a sensitive technology you don't even have the luxury of bringing in China in the equation.

Just manufacturing itself is extremely tough here, let alone proper R&D
🙂

There is something called scale of Manufacturing. Chinese companies have large scale manufacturing to the point these are minor specifications which can dished out in a matter of hours. Indian companies on the other hand most probably an mid level company who are gaining foothold.

And also the insane amount of BABU FILES one has to go from MSME to SME to mass factory.
