Lt. Gen P. Ravishankar being interviewed by Sandeep Unnithan on the Pralay Quasi Ballistic Missile ( BM) , the formalities & implications of inducting it .
I like the way he begins the interview. As per him the reasons for not inducting the Pralay after agreeing with Unnithan on the fact that our leadership didn't want to alarm the Pakis by inducting a BM in a tactical role ( non nuclear role ) immediately denies it & he then goes into a lengthy soliloquy on what the thinking or doctrine behind it was .
What comes across very clearly is post Sundarji , there has been no thinker leave aside a great thinker about military doctrines especially from the IA. Up until 2020 the world thought short wars were the thing so did the IA. So what changed in 2020 ? Galwan. Besides the IA weren't still convinced of it . Pray why ? Simple . Since nobody in the west thought so.
Come 2022, the west thinks differently. Voila ! So does IA. A word of caution . He doesn't say all this. I did . I extrapolated it from his statements. However don't let that dissuade you from what's otherwise an informative interview.
There's plenty he touches upon including the Russian doctrine of Recce Strike Complex & the various elements of it which apparently we've been building since 2012 ( my extrapolation from his answer as to the reason we've not yet inducted the Pralay since if you notice the person leading the contingent on this year's Republic Day Parade was a DRDO official although the TEL & the missile were in livery ).
