Not to mention the fact that 50 BMG is primarily an anti-materiel round, not a precision sniper round. Add the recoiling barrel of a Barrett and you're not coming under 2 MoA even on your best day.
So, it's a bit weird bar to cross.

I have problem digesting the fact that force one use their 50 instead of their MRAD .
It was a precision shooting competition, someone with 2 functional brain cells will pick up the mrad over the 50

My thoughts exactly. The only unit who might be better than or on par with NSG in India is MARCOS. I doubt any state police CT or SWAT unit would even come close to em'. Several state police SWAT units like Force-1, AP/Telangana's Octopus commandos etc as a matter of fact also send their personnel to train alongside NSG

Also, I'm not aware of NSG procuring SSS's snipers except for a few reports where Paras and NSG were seen testing them.

Nevertheless, I hope this news in some way creates the much needed traction for the armed forces, police & paramilitary units to start considering SSS even in limited numbers

Yup. Bringing a 50 Cal to a precision sniping competition is like bringing a sledgehammer to chisel a marble statue.

Absolutely. Irrespective of whatever happened, I hope this brings the SSS guns into more end user arsenals. CAPFs could be their biggest customer and that would help them fine tune their weapons for international consumers.

Makes me question the logic of whoever from Force One chose to field the 50 Cal. Barrett, rather than the 0.338 Lapua Magnum Barrett M98B for this competition from their arsenal.

Guess its the same shit show that has plagued the India Military.. - Them having NO FUCKING CLUE of how to properly utilise what they have in their arsenal.

Only UP Police has the Barrett MRAD as of now in India. NSG & Force One use the Barrett M98B which is a precursor to the MRAD from which it was derived, it’s very likely every single so called journalist has just gone peddling this info without even making sure that it’s accurate. Knowing The Print & Snehesh Alex Philip, it could go either way.

Most of Force One's gear was bought in 2009-2010 after 26/11 when .50 cal BMG was the rage for long range precision fire.

It then became a 'tradition' to buy .50 cal and MHA probably encouraged other state police units to buy these as well. @Alby can confirm the same if possible.

NSG meanwhile keeps evaluating new calibres and conducts tests on small batches of gear for familiarisation.
