Newer PCs From AT are on western level gear to quality and we are getting actual Crye and some units getting Chinese Crye copy and a pc made by ex para guy from uttrakhand so old PC days are gone well except some units who have no idea what they are doing

One of the best drills of paras that we have seen in a while with decent gears.
A handful of units are putting in some considerate efforts.
Our SF modernization is moving at a snails pace but i am quite optimistic with the small changes that we have witnessed.

This is 9 no? You would always expect them to be at front. Such a deadly battalion with mighty stories, wasted in mostly cordon CT operations now

It should have been a tier 1 equivalent unit but brass doesn’t give 2 fks about it..

Dropping them in every encounter in which indian infantry should be and are well trained to take is absolutely sad.

That’s totally fine I do this is the first time it is officially acknowledged also in the article it is stated that most of these command related tasks has to be done in the first 100 days of the new government

AFSOD now and AFSOD under a seprate command is totally different thing

To have a tier-1 Equivalent unit is up to country's policy makers, NSA and most importantly, the PMO. The top brass is like a mule to them. If the higher authority tells them to make a tier-1 unit, they have to do it.
9 was the first commando unit to be raised on the lines of british SAS, that intent of that level still runs in the battalion.

I haven't been there since a while. They used to have an indoor CQB facility if i remember correctly. Maybe @Arad Operator can confirm. Apart from that 9 and 4 SF HQs are not far from each other so that modern killhouse can be shared if the need arises.

If you want to throw 9 into infantry operations at least give them the equipment to come out without one causality. Them having infantry equipment is slowing them down horribly.

I highly doubt fine isn't using a mordern killhouse rn they either got one or they are sharing as you mentioned

Atleast in the news article, the emphasis is on theatre commands, with AFSOD playing a "supporting" role.

AFSOD is just a unit. Until the time India gets a SOCOM with a separate budget, intel staff, command structure, and a written doctrine on where/how/when to employ special forces, I would refrain from getting the hopes up too high.

They want to create seprate sf command that's been literally the Goal and was the point of establishing AFSOD as a trial run it's based On JSOC itself and it's been delayed because Military was planning some more things with SF command that's the point it will become a seprate sf command that's what theaterizations one goal is.

Much of it also depends upon the country's foreign intervention policy. There is generally a trend that mostly the countries which deploy outside of their mainland have better modernization. Ofcourse there are exceptions like east Asian countries but we aren't taking US help upto the level they are
