Apparently by the time it came out reputation of drdo small arms was ruined for indian armed forces this platform did have lot of potential and even now it can be refined further

ARDE design the guns.

OFB babus build the gun. We all know the reputation of them.

Also ARDE need some former Western Gun company consultant to refine the design. Otherwise these guys look very much outdated with modern gun designs which is going on Western countries.

Why we are seeing many Para guys with this same setup? Isn’t this BP jacket with rigs of 2000s even on Indian standards? Or am i missing something or am i wrong in my assessment?

I could be wrong.
But I think the plates insides that carrier are metal ones( equivalent to lvl4 in terms of protection) that are heavy but much more effective against ak rounds(including Armour piercing) at close ranges.
And most of the modern plates indian army has bought are lvl3.

Easy to go prone with all that magzines, grenades and other equipment + (copy paste from a plebbit gear sub comment) -

well-set-up split rig over a dedicated slick carrier is one of the most practical setups for modern engagements. There are times when you would want your armor on but not the 20 pounds of other gear, and there are times when you want the breathability of the chest rig without the armor.
split rig makes the process slightly faster and more convenient. It also causes minimal downsides; there is barely a shift in the placement of pouches.

every new design go through hiccups in the field and during mass production. Army could have solved the problem with iterative design, but they came up with excuses to shun indian weapons. Hot oil in the eye thing is complete bullshit.

Rather than getting basic armour ,radios with PTT and ear piece and NV and thermal so they your troops are night blind or something our country spend money first on sig553 which is $ 5k-6k
And x 95 with mepro mor pro again which is 3k -4k $ they have that much money to spend on just a rifle but they forget there are other things than rifle which if not are just as important

Army was more worried about "production quality of OFB" than drdo
