Indian Special Forces

He was also part of a tv series where him and another officer got bullied by a single civil guy with a decent physique..

In the next episode they invited a tall and muscular Infantry Army officer to bully that particular candidate..
Which series bro?
What kind of series was it? Something like ' Survivor' type of thing?

It was like Roadies but motive was to train civilians in combating terrorists.

Which i find as a stupid approach…The agencies should lessen their reaction time.

What will one unarmed civilian do against 4 armed terrorists?

Being brave with a Assault rifle is easy…without a assault rifle is very very difficult.

yes, he was a heavy metal drummer and a geek too, he's really an amazing dude

One of the details that I've made out from his podcasts was that selection and probation period in his unit is a serious straightforward game, no nonsense type, no uneccessary bs mind games. Same with 1 para SF (from Maj. Sapru's and maj. Sushant Singh's accounts).
I hope whenever a centralized selection pattern comes into full force, these type of guys should be given the responsibility to conduct it.

I can absolutely see your perspective and such shows are mostly gimmicks for their time, but I have a slightly different opinion, a trained person is an asset to the nation especially if you're trained in medevac procedures, critical first aid, swimming and unarmed combat.

The point you said is discussed million times already. One word;corruption.SLR was replaced citing the exact opposite reasons which was cited to induct Sig716 😝

My subtle point was - "The Army knows what is doing" | "Knows better than us" | "works in the best interest of the nation" | etc etc

Are not valid statements anymore.

Secondly - "Corruption" can come in various forms. ONE of them is accepting and promoting a culture of Nepotism and Incompetence.

Thats a different topic bcoz it is life saving..it doesnt require any rare kind of bravery but an act of effort and kindness.

Unarmed combat is a debatable topic…I am trained in MMA but i wont use that skill bcoz i dont know how it might be used against me by the Police and Law system…the max i would do is to block both parties from fighting.

If its a terrorist event then i would escape with my family and friends…if i am alone i will still escape coz i dont have any firearms and being brave without any weapon is very difficult.

If god forbid a law agency person is matyred in front of me i would still not dare to pick his weapon and fire because who knows i might be identified as a terrorist and fired upon.

Remember Dan Bilzerian episode?

I dont feel training unarmed civilians to fight is a good idea because what is the probability they will be there at that event at the same time.

What i would do differently if i was in charge was that i would identify every place in a city where the threat is high and from that place i would invite people who stay there only full time like for example a shopkeeper from a big mall which can be targeted..

Now,in every such place i would train such people on the best practices for any events from Fire to Earthquake and terrorist events.

Then the probability of a trained person being at that very event i was talking about goes high.

(And even if the shopkeeper picks a weapon and fires he will be easily identified by the local law enforcement team who had trained him as a friendly and not a terrorist)

probation is actually very straightforward, you have route marches, navigation, classroom sessions, PT, BPET, BOC, weapons training, heliborne insertion, basic land warfare tactics, E&E simialr to Ghatak course and stuff.....all the additional ragda is based on surviving on your wits in the domain where your unit is deployed, from what I've heard from interviews is that 9 Para, 1 Para, 4 Para it's usually the mountains, 10 gets fucked around in the desert and 21 in the jungle and so on. So they are very proficient in their region.

I wish their's a centralized selection too, like for 3 months the probation is for all and then the other 3 months they can get fucked about in their theatre of operations and trained in like 9 and all could go to HAWS, 10 could learn mobility tactics and desert survival, 21 and all could go to CJIWS and their should be this thing that they'd have to have instructors gradding or exellent in the second half of probation otherwise they'll fail

Questions

1. Was the Sig 716 (762) a requirement of the Forces? If so, What Case-use studies were done? How did the Forces find the 762/Sig Suitable?

2. What is the process of framing the QRs and FRs - generals in air conditioned rooms or soldiers on the ground play a part?
- Do they follow a scientific method or are we stuck in an argument of "authority fallacy"?
I'll just give my side of story from teligram here, from our own 'hammer head shark' sir 🔨🦈
here is copy of my SIG716I post on D F I from first hand user colloquially known as 'hammer head shark' 🔨🦈 sir himself from good august 2021 times

since then a lot has happened and except that local ammo issue and some videos of jawans literally getting pushed rearwards when attempting to fire it at full auto, not much issues have come out and we're seeing many of these SIG-716s being issued with optics and scopes too
after this, we did talk one more time over SIG-716i but he responded with audio posts so i can't post it all here, except some gist of it in words, but not relevant to this post

I also want to say that, he literally mentioned it at least two times when they were evaluating 7.62 NATO rifles, that IWI Tavor-7 was leading it,
but somehow SIG-716i suddenly arrived and won the tender?! not sure how it fared against other contenders in trial

Ran into this middle aged couple while visiting Chota Imambada in Lucknow today. After clicking a photo for them, I noticed the husband was wearing a pair of golden rimmed black ray-ban aviators. The puffed chest, upright posture and sharp haircut rang a bell too. So I curiously asked, "Uncle were you in the army?"

He let out a little smile. "Yes, how did you know?"

His wife excitedly chimed in, "Yes, and he was in the parachute regiment - the unit that crossed over - 4!"

Uncle became more reserved at that very moment. Now it was my fanboy moment.

"Sir, you were in the Daggers, i.e. the fourth of the north?!"

"Yes."

Shook hands and said am a defence aspirant and more of a 9 para guy. My girlfriend was visibly happy on the side too.

Uncle said, "Yeah, they're good too."

Aunty said, "But 4 is the best, ha ha!"

We also learned that uncle went on to command 16 AR before hanging his boots. Now the couple is making up for all the time spent apart in those years prolly.

With Col Pk As - truly an unexpected surprise ❤️

P. S. Before leaving Aunty said, "Fauj zaroor join karna!"

This is my second encounter w the maroon berets. Met 50 Para brigade guys in Agra last December.

Have had multiple interactions with the infantry though - be it shaking hands with a Gurkha sentry to checkout the Sig 716 closely at India Gate or waving back to a bunch of Dogra boys in a 2.5 ton at Kartavya Path. Met Rajput, Signal, Sikh guys at my nearest cant too!

I met with a uncle during a family function who was a sniper in Para SF and just retired ( don't know about the unit as i didn't talk to him directly but he was an absolute unit ) , he was a close friend and neighbor of my uncle . I really wanted to ask a lot of stuff but couldn't get a chance thought i will get a lot of chances later .

Alas he met with a road accident that same night while returning from that function (that's another tragic story).

Though i hadn’t held or even seen a sig can say for sure holding a weapon with rails minus the foregrip is a painful experience, let alone firing for prolonged time.
Don’t think even the present foregrips on Ak-203s is an the optimal solution considering the other options available for our forces.
