Realistically we can pull a kargil on them, use on these infiltration attempts to launch an offensive occupy some strategic heights and advance like 5km into loc.

Taking back entire pok is a pipe dream, population is extremely hostile and govt doesn't want the international attention. An small but devastating attack on some pak army posts will have more better returns. It requires govt to muster up courage and alot of artillery both conventional and rockets, ideally dpicm to attack thier units, pralay comes in handy here cause it threatens their airbases and positions deep into loc.

But a veteran told me the lesser territory we aim to capture... the more would be the Casualties... these "5-10km here and there" was feasible in pre smart munition era(pre 2005)... not now.

Suppose we move in 5km over a width of 20km... that's nothing in era of AEWACS, drones and guided munitions... it would need 24×7 aerial dominance 100km beyond those 5kms to save your troops in that 5×20 sqkm bracket from being taken out.

if condition is like this nowadays, we're very close to Pulwama or even bigger attack on forces, I wonder what kind of intel is being sent to PMO ? is army leadership telling sweet lies to govt ? If jammu was being threatened in past months, is this what there plan is ?, send like 50-100 terrorists into our side and disrupt things for few weeks, pullback and repeat after some months ? surely leadership is not blind to these patterns.

that is a hypothetical scenario, we're not even using artillery against ceasefire violations and multiple infiltration attempts, my biggest fear is top brass might be thinking losing 40-60 soldiers is acceptable.

without a proper military operation we can't do shit about these periodic attacks, their army would do these even if entire country is burning. defensive position won't solve these and we certainly can't think about rising j&k's economy with these issues, there is gonna be a large attack on civilians eventually.

You don't have edge in quality/tech of artillery, infantry or anything that matters in a border duel. The only edge is in numbers.

They inducted 236 truck mounted howitzers of Chinese origin which are among the best available globally. They are going in for more.

What have we inducted in past 10 yrs?

The 100x K9 are not for LOC

The 145x M777 are mostly deployed under eastern command

Out of the 114x Dhanush ordered... barely ~40 have been delivered so far.

Truck mounted Artillery has its merits in mountain warfare... yet none ordered by IA so far.
