90& of the water that goes into the Brahmaputra river in India comes from watersheds in india - Google search

Google AI -

The statement is incorrect. While a significant portion of the Brahmaputra's water within India originates from Indian watersheds, it's not 90%. A Mint article states that Indian officials say 60% of the water in the Brahmaputra comes from India, and 40% comes from Tibet. A NatStrat article suggests that 50% of the Brahmaputra River basin is in China, but it accounts for only 22 to 30% of the total basin's discharge. [1, 1, 2, 3]
Here's a more accurate breakdown:
  • Tibet (China): Contributes a considerable portion of the Brahmaputra's water, particularly the flow from the three main tributaries. [1, 1, 3, 3]
  • India: A major contributor, especially in the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra, with numerous tributaries entering the river within India. [3, 3, 4, 4]
  • Bangladesh: The Brahmaputra flows through Bangladesh before emptying into the Bay of Bengal. [4, 4, 5, 6, 7]
The Central Water Commission of India estimates that 60% of the water in the Brahmaputra originates in India. [3]

Water commission data of such poor quality that not even the GoI takes it seriously but Google AI is citing that? LOL.

Annual outflow data;

Data published by Chinese scholars and cited by Ghosh shows that Yarlung’s total annual outflow from China is about 31 Billion Cubic Metre (BMC). However, the annual flow of Brahmaputra at Bahadurabad gauging station in Bangladesh, close to the point where the river enters the country, is about 606 BCM.

Peak monsoon flow;

At Nuxia and Tsela Dzong water measuring stations in Tibet, the peak flows during the monsoon season are about 5,000 and 10,000 cubic metre per second. But downstream in India, the peak flow increases, reaching around 40,000 cumes in Guwahati and 50,000 cumecs in Bangladesh’s Bahadurabad.

Not totally insignificant but hardly a big deal.

Swarajya has done some excellent coverage on this;

In short, complete the planned/under construction dam projects (in Arunachal, Assam) and you are good to go.

Damming brmhaputra in tibet is incredibly difficult

People need to look at what the proposed dam design actually is. Its an order of magnitude more difficult than 3 gorges.

I know profitability of infrastructure is not a consideration for changs but this will l cost a lot of money. Nobody lives there,
.. what will it be for.. (Data centers?)

It's not a given china pulls it off.

Well you all wont believe in this, but damming brahmaputra will not happen, ever
Its a dharmic river flowing through kamrup, kamakhya, the capital of tantra,
Goddess bagalamukhi has the capability to stop anything, anything, an accomplished high level sadhaka can even stop a natural phenomenon which you cannot imagine
The river flows there as per her ie maa kamakhya's allowance and choice, damming brahmaputra aint happening
Or even if it starts, china would see the predicted economic downfall this decade, the wrath of maa kamakhya and the dash mahavidyas
The sadhakas wont sit like let it happen, china would pay in a very bad way,

So this was my angle on brahmaputra, china cannot dam it as it has evil intentions clearly
