AD fiasco apart, if Iranians did a good job at surveying the mountain before selecting the site, they ensured that the peak was at least a 1K meter high, entrance at the base where they initially started boring was under a natural cave or engineered tunnel; the entrance itself was 135m from the mouth of the tunnel; the facility is further 90m below the base. I do not think six conventional bombs would be able to take out a facility like that. GBU-57s would work well against Reichstag type bunkers not against bunkers buried deep under mountains. US military knows this. This was probably a politically inspired decision. As I stated earlier, most likely the mouth of the tunnel is blocked from splintered rocks. It may take few months for Iranians to secure the entrance and repair the damage.
Also, I have a feeling, once Israel started bombing raids, Iranians moved the enriched uraniums and other vital equipment to somewhere else.
I personally think this is just the beginning of the crisis. Even if Iranians do not do anything, Israel will continue to put pressure on USA to carry out further strikes on Iran. The idea would be to soften Iran for land invasion. Question is : which country would be used as a launchpad for land invasion against Iran? If your answer is Pakistan, how would it affect India's national security?
USA already had a good plan to denuclearize Iran through IAEA and delicious carrots. I am not sure why this plan was abandoned for it was working very well. IAEA inspections is how USA and Israel know so well about the layouts of Iranian nuclear facilities. This is why, it is quite obvious that the path Iran chose could have never lead to acquisition of nuclear weapons; everything Iranians did was out in open until when USA reneged on the treaty few years ago. Ironically, it was Trump who was president then and even more ironically, it was Netanyahoo who requested Trump to walk out on the treaty.
