I disagree with this assessment.
Only because India has surpassed that stage of power where we need some country to send their men and machinery to do the battle for us.
We didn't need this even during the four wars we fought with Pakistan, one in "71 being very much against an antagonistic US.
What we need this alliance for is to make sure the other partners of the so called alliance are not used to leverage our weaknesses. Case in point being how China provides economic cover fire for Russia in Ukraine. Smuggling dual-use chips, buying large quantities of cheap oil. Basically doing whatever they can to keep a few Russian interests unharmed.
Were they not in this alliance, America would easily have come in and pressured Russia using these pain points. Yes, Chinese do these because Russia has oil and food to offer, no doubt. Not to mention land. In same manner, we have to find stuffs to offer.
If one is dreaming of fighting a war alone in today's world, it is a foolish dream, and a lot of people subscribe to this wet dream of India against the world, where by some magic India can forever keep balancing East and West without ever getting in a tricky situation. All our ancient wisdom, statecraft and even modern history all the while points this being opposite to common sense.
