ISRO - General Discussions

ISRO never had the market. It was abysmally low share already which SpaceX blown away.
We simply stand nowhere near US in aerospace.
No self cursing is useful since you cannot out-innovate anyone who can outspend you.
Does ISRO ever said or desire to market its launches like spacex.

Even initially ISRO refuses launches for OneWeb, its govt who put pressure on ISRO to launch OneWeb.

ISRO main goal is to maintain and continue Sovereign Space Capability. Nowhere did it or gormint say launching satellites for others is it's thing. It's not even remotely in the equation. It's just side quest like thing.

That's coz like in all other fields we've chosen a faulty model to commercialize ISRO tech expertise. What ISRO & GoI should've done is establish a production agency which'd essentially specialise only in mfg LVs beginning with the PSLV / SSLV.

Ideally, this should've been within the Pvt Sector with ISRO focusing purely on Design & Research which was the original intention. Instead we've Pvt Corporations emerge in this sector who're essentially developing their own LVs.

It's not a bad development per se but far from an ideal scenario from the overall biz perspective of our aerospace ecosystem as far as commercial viability & larger aims go.

Yep. It's the same model followed everywhere else from Roscosmos URSC Or China CASC-CALT, ESA-ArianeSpace, NASA- ULA, but somehow I don't understand babus mindset. Even the Russians and Chinese separated both of them but we are still doing the same.

But in some slides they showed for NGLV, there will be maximum industry participation. So that s good for starters. Maybe final assembly will take place at ISRO with all subcomponents coming from L&T, Godrej etc.

ISRO is not a commercial space agency, it's a research organisation.

So, it doesn't matter. ISRO always will and always should deny commercial launches if hurdling exploration missions.
Space industry is headache of DoS & PMO, not ISRO.

Right

Why create publicity for it when it means they will be exposed to spying and hacking by China and other state actors?

Without the NGLV going online, we may loose significant market share with respect to satellite launching. At least needs to 3rd after US and China.

Hope ISRO is getting ready with Production partners and Commerical agencies like NSIL and Antrix.
Actually pvt players not able to get breakthrough. See at skyroot no launches even after 3 years.

They are small Startups and since this kind of sector highly requires lot of testing. We can expect them to take time. While it is frustating for us, but we need to learn walking before running.

Good thinks GOI and ISRO providing support in few areas instead of leaving them to fend off themselves something we are known to do.

But Reusable rockets is simply changes the game man. That is why I am hoping NGLV will be fast tracked so we can capture the market.

Right, but looking at the budget allocation & way GOI releasing funds NGLV will take time atleast another 5 years to come to production/commercial stage.
