Kaveri Engine

Good news on Kaveri.

A dry thrust of 49-51kN and a plan to integrate to a 73-75kN with afterburner may not sound impressive, but using it for UAV applications building on it and commit to a Kaveri 2.0 for future sounds like a plan!

Gov should not give up on this, and go all in. If needed take help of the French or Ruskies by clubbing it with some other military deal.

The next phase involves mounting the Kaveri engine on a flying test bed (FTB) for real-world performance evaluation. This step will include testing the engine’s response to various flight conditions, its integration with aircraft systems, and its overall reliability in dynamic environments:

As above line what would be the FTB now ??

I think GE sanctions comes as a good for us. Atleast it awakens the karveri. Kahin na kahin pahuch hi jayenge.
You say that as if GE sanctions are a fact. Any evidence?

GE say that the problem lies in a breakdown in their supply chain. Is that so difficult to believe when other aerospace companies have reported problems in their supply chains?

It is reported that the first 2 Mk1A's have been held up in delivery due to modifications requested by IAF. For all we know, if 10 engines had been supplied, 10 Mk1A's have been held up in delivery due to modifications requested by IAF.

Is GE being used as a convenient scapegoat to cover other, India-induced delays?

IDRW apart from NYT are two of the most authentic news sources I’ve ever come across

You missed the auditing by SAFRAN along with the offer for "technical consultancy " as part of the offsets for the 36 nos Rafales we procured from France in the time period between 2016-19.

They also offered the core of the M-88 TF for an amount the MoD deemed too obscene . Regardless it was the same offer they extended nearly a decade ago to GTRE which IAF shot down.
Oh I see we used offsets to revalidate what was validated in Russia but this time by Safran and in France. I wonder what difference did it make to baseline perfo4mance figures of Kaveri? Was that good offset use?

From what I understand it was their consultancy which helped us get rid of the screech & flutter problems . However their opinion was that in its current form the Kaveri won't be able to generate an after burning thrust of 85 KN .

Basically the diagnosis of the problem was that for the way GTRE had constructed the TF , the only way for them to get to 85 KN was to reconstruct the TF else with the existing general arrangement the TF had then , it wasn't going to deliver the desired after burning thrust. For that GTRE would be better served by going in for a M-88 core.

MoD found it too expensive. In any case this same proposal was extended more than a decade before 2018-19 by SAFRAN which in turn was rejected by the IAF.

Reading between the lines , it seems GTRE learnt their lessons right from the consultancy & reconstructed the TF though it either took them 6-7 years to do so or they didn't get a favourable nod from MoD or IAF earlier which is to say before the present time. Your guess is as good as mine.

So what's the thing with Brahmos building the Afterburner? Is it the newly designed one?

Thanks Azaad.

Another part I forgot to mention is that Kaveri as it exists today ( not the one under fabrication ) had already achieved an after burning thrust of 72-73 KN except it wasn't for the desired length of time. It developed screech & flutter over an extended period of time , hence re evaluation , consultancy by SAFRAN , re designing , re engineering , etc.

With the new one under construction GTRE ought to be targeting at least 55 KN & > 80 KN . How exactly do they plan on going about this or even testing this remains to be seen as I've no clue about the testing protocol .

GE engine now gone, now following options we have:-

1. Try to fit kaveri
2. Try to fit RD

or

Scrap TejasMk1A and apply learning in Tejas MK2 (with kaveri engine).
Work on AMCA (with kaveri engine)
Fill fleet gap with upgraded SukMKI.

At last make hell on GE business in India to show their aukaat.

Navy has fallen in love with their LM2500 engines so it will backfire.
Anyway it is not GE's fault, they are dhandhos after all and would love some extra money.

It is their (((masters))), earlier it was that deepstate geezer and now it will be the Deal Master 9000 and his best friend, President Musk

Better to be on our engines, otherwise these arms twisting will happen again and again. Or better make France our engine partner.
