Govt/MoD find a bulk order too expensive.

However now because of the fighter squadron crisis they seem more amenable to a Rafale order.
Dassault is also being sweet now with the fuselage production domestically and M88 MRO etc.

Anyway DRDO/HAL/ADA will be kept employed by these MWF/AMCA style mnrega projects, but they won't get big orders even if it's past the prototype and trials stage.

Mind you this is not to maintain sovereign capability to build fighter jets and weapon systems but to give sarkari karamcharis employed

In 1960s when we were making new and capable fighter jet marut then britan offered us jv of new and powerful engine with tot govt which was kgb gulam rejected and took devloped underpowered engine same as what we did ge 404 with Tejas hal also designed twin engine varient which had big potential which would have tornado for india but it was buried deeper that I bet most of members here doesn't know about it
And today i don't want to describe what's happening

Today they are flying atleast four 5 generation in which one is mass produced one is going to be mass produced two are just prototype yet not to mention thier 4 and 4.5 gen aircraft
