In layman terms, why do we need canards for Mk2? What benefits do they bring and what re the cons for using them?

The sort of extreme close-coupled canards that nearly overlap the wings on LCA Mk2, are primarily meant for increasing payload & low-speed handling. The closest comparison design-wise is with IAI Kfir that saw a 3500kg increase in payload from original Mirage 5 by adding canards.

it seems that you forgot the 'NEW' engine on Kfir which provides much more thrust than the orinal one

Same bloody thing happened with the DARIN III engines from Honeywell. They waited for 9 freaking years for MoD and MoF to make up their minds and then updated the prices.
I was commenting on the reason why a committee should be formed to take over negotiation in the place of the current Indian negotiators. Doesn't make any sense to me.

By now I'm convinced the only cure for a Importitis of Genrols is forcing the "Navy Model" upon them

Guess this is a good enough plan to fix the flying and terrestrial Genrols, the main plan here is to take away their ability of putting the blame on DRDO or HAL or whoever else( Let's assume some private sectors also included ) and using that as an excuse to push for imports.

But the problem is UN General does not know how to work. They only know how to cry. Look at how these people are acting on Twitter is shameful.

The merry-go-round between IAF,HAL and ADA has not only ensured that we not only have no credible effective conventional deterrence against China but on the verge of losing Air supremacy over Pakistan,a country barely 9% the economic size of India.

Tejas didn't even had FOC clearance in 2009 so how is he claiming that 40 jets were ordered in 2009?
FOC clearance was given only after 2015
it was aircraft developmental iteration, 20 aircraft IOC standard (2004), and 20 with FOC ( 2009).
So basically it is the art of killing a project as follows:

1) Prolonging development time by giving new requirements
2) Small order to make it difficult to achieve scale of economy, means slow production
3) To make it impossible to indigenize subsystems due to low order number
4) Discourage private players from participating due to ambiguity about the future of the project
5) Provide space to create propaganda to go for an emergency route to buy foreign mall
6) By the time you come up with FOC, your IOC systems will be declared out-of-date.
7) When your IOC system is declared out of date then you will need a Tejas MK1a
8) You will only order Tejas MK1a when engine manufacturing stopped
9) Now you have ordered virtually 4 types of aircraft out of 40 aircraft.
10) Now you can blame PSUs for slow delivery as the engine is not available

Now again you have reached my point number 1. So basically it has become a cycle.
 


The general failed to mention that no funds were authorized for the order until Manihar Parrikar became DM and asked the IAF why no funds were released to HAL. IAF were playing the blame games with HAL over the Tejas program until MP came along and started kicking asses and demanding results.

Tejas was IAF’s bastard child and received the bastard child treatment. MP made sure that it didn’t get the bastard child treatment.
