In layman terms, why do we need canards for Mk2? What benefits do they bring and what re the cons for using them?
The sort of extreme close-coupled canards that nearly overlap the wings on LCA Mk2, are primarily meant for increasing payload & low-speed handling. The closest comparison design-wise is with IAI Kfir that saw a 3500kg increase in payload from original Mirage 5 by adding canards.
