When the leader of the pack UK/USA have a view everyone will follow that view, their is no
independent view or reporting by the west. When Israel was getting negative press in europe
the pack leaders must have said to stop it and many european nations have toned it down, that
is not the case with India. Any large country is only viewed as a threat to western hegemony
so the media will always have a negative view toward that country.
Right, and there are nuances with this as well. Had India, even with larger size, been a sluggish, non-achieving country depending on donations from other countries and institutions, and Pakistan despite its smaller size been the more vibrant, dynamic, independent minded country, guess whom the same media would be supporting? Particularly if one country was perceived as supporting Western interests? The junk you read now about India, would be reported about Pakistan! Nothing so rare( non-existent?) as honourability.
As for China, often the Western media is sympathetic to India, at least not usually sympathetic to China in any ideological or physical clash between the two countries. Even here, there are sections of the media and think tanks, that actually wouldn't mind India suffering a setback with China. If such a setback would make India more dependent on the US than on independent development with major inputs from Russia and France, it would be welcomed.
And then there's the whole issue, as others here have pointed out, of having to face two large, dynamic independent minded entities instead of just one, China. An Indian loss would be seen as contributing to the weakening of one potential/actual competitor to the West, so it certainly wouldn't be frowned upon!
