So Dassault will start producing fuselages for Rafale fighters starting in 2028 with Tata advanced systems. Unlike some folks here and everywhere on the internet, I am seriously not so much worried about Pakis getting stealth fighter or for that matter Chinese having J-20. We should double down on 3 squadrons of Rafale that is 54 fighters with the condition that they give access to source code to integrate our own weapons. However, we have to wait for advanced Rafale version F5 if we are going for more Rafales. It is huge mark up from previous iterations with big hardware and software updates.
We cannot shop for stealth fighters like they are cookies in a super market. F35 is non starter. We have S-400 and operating F-35 is expensive even for USAF. Then there are lot of other things which I feel tired to even type here. There is enough information why F-35 is not an option for us. Why do people still cling to it as if it is a wonder weapon? This Jet has still not seen combat, yet many have crashed.
Then you have S-57. I have written enough about it before why we won't go for another Russian fighter. If you have iota of knowledge about 5th generation fighters you would not recommend Su-57 for IAF. We need to counter stealth fighters of China and Porkistan(if they get one at all). One way is to counter them is through inducting a stealth fighter. I am of the opinion we should build advanced radars which can detect stealth aircrafts and be able to lock on to them to engage them first. Our stealth fighter is some years away, so why not focus on countering through radars and missiles first where we have some experience?
