I know this man—his name is
Veer Lund, a
Hindu from
Sindh, Pakistan. He is a retired doctor currently residing in the UK. I used to be his friend on Facebook, and the stories he shared about the suffering of Pakistani Hindus were truly horrifying. Most people cannot even begin to imagine the extent of the hardships and discrimination they endure.
According to him, the system in Pakistan is structured, both directly and indirectly, in a way that leaves Pakistani Hindus and other minorities with little choice but to face persecution or eventually convert to Islam. In Pakistan, it is very common for national television panelists to openly insult Hindu gods or Hinduism in front of Hindu viewers without facing any consequences(Legally and socially)
However, the situation is starkly different in India. If a Hindu even makes a perceived criticism of Islam, the backlash can be severe(socially and legally). Take the example of
Nupur Sharma: despite the fact that she did not use abusive language towards Islam, and was, in fact, tolerating repeated insults to Hinduism from certain Indian Muslim panelists(
Taslim Rehmani) at that time on live TV—she merely quoted Islamic verses in defense of her own religion. Yet, individuals like Mohammed Zubair and various misinformation peddlers distorted the narrative, portraying it as an act of blasphemy. Even some Pakistani clerics like
Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza acknowledged that what Nupur Sharma said was indeed accurate according to Islamic texts. Still, she received death threats and was forced to go into hiding. Tragically, several innocent Hindus, including
Kanhaiya Lal, were also killed in the name of defending religious sentiments by radical Islamists.
Interestingly, people like
Taslim Rehmani were not convicted by our courts, despite the fact that he mocked the Shivling. In contrast, the Supreme Court made harsh remarks against Nupur Sharma, stating that
"Her loose tongue has set the entire country on fire." Meanwhile, individuals like Akbaruddin Owaisi are acquitted with full honor, even after making blasphemous remarks about Bhagwan Ram and Maa Sita.
